changing the battery on Brinks system

I have a "Battery low" message on my brinks keypads . And the system is beeping all the time. I looked in the main pannel and saw a black box, it was written on it: rechargeable battery. It's hooked with a black and red wire. How do I recharge it? or do I need a new one? is this the only battery I should look for? I called Brinks, they won't tell me anything if I don't have an account with them. Help! this beeping is driving me crazy!

Typically, the battery inside the panel (the one you mentioned) is a 12V/4Ah battery. You can get these at Radio Shack, Batteries Plus, and pretty much any electronics specialists (if you have problems finding one, let me know - I have them, but they are heavy and expensive to ship.) The best thing to do is to remove the existing battery and take it with you to the store to match-up a new one, just to make sure you get the right one.

The battery itself is rechargeable, but the system has a built-in charging circuit, so if it's saying low battery, then the battery is probably no good. Don't try to recharge it, just replace it.

Good luck!
