Question existing Chubb system

I think I already know the answer to my question from reading the forum, but here goes...I recently moved my small business to a new facility which has an existing Chubb monitored system with panel, keypad, siren, two door sensors, and two motion detectors. The property's been vacant for several months, so there's no monitoring agreement. All appears to be functional with zone LEDs lighting, etc. I've disconnected the telephone wire, but everything else is intact. (If Chubb uses another manufacturer's equipment, I haven't looked to see the make/model, etc.)

I can't afford monitoring at this point, but it would be nice to have a working system dial my cell/pager on intrusions. Is there any way to reprogram the PIN and program the dialing, or must I buy a new panel, keypad, or both?

What options do I have? And, can you recommend a parts source?

Thanks in advance...

If you could look in the panel to see who makes the system, I could tell you more. But, for now, without the installer code, you usually can't do anything with those systems. I want to say Chubb uses DSC parts, I don't know why I'm thinking that (maybe I heard it somewhere?) So, I may be wrong about that. Either way, you may be able to default the system, but it's highly unlikely. Can't hurt to try. If that doesn't work, you could always just replace the control panel and keypad with something like a Concord Express or, if it's a DSC panel, you could just replace the panel with a DSC 632. You wouldn't really need a keypad, so you could just get a new panel and replace the board.

Let me know what kind of system is in there, and I'll see if there's anything we can do with it.

Good luck!

existing Chubb system

Brandon, thanks for the reply. Upon further inspection, the system is a Detection Systems, Inc model DS7060. The copyright on the label is 1996. The label lists an information manual #30658 rev. E. Also, there is a handwritten series of numbers near the keypad section of the terminal wiring diagram. "400" and "-1840" below the 400.

There is also a warning that transformer, battery, and phone line should be disconnected for servicing. Is that what you mean by "default the system?"

I tried the handwritten numbers on the keypad, but basically any five keys pressed result in the same "three-beep" tone. The power led is lit (because of interruption, I'm sure), but the status led is lit as well, and I'm not sure what that means.

What do you think?

Ok, you ready for this? Here's all the programming info I have on that system. It sounds like you may be better off just replacing the panel and keypad. But, if you can get it to work, this will be of some help.

Good luck!

Whew!! Alright, I think I've got what I need, but I have what may be a stupid question...In the programming sequences, what do the "I" characters represent? For example:

[46#] Programmer and Master Codes (Enter 8 digits then # to save and exit)

Default

9876 I_ 9__I_ 8__I_ 7__I_ 6__I Programmers Pin (0000 to 99999)
1234 I_ 1__I_ 2__I_ 3__I_ 4__I Master Pin (0000 to 99999)

If I can get into programming mode (if the PIN hasn't been changed), I can enter this section 46 and enter new PINs. But the instructions say to enter 8 digits then # to save and exit. Since the PINs are 4 or 5 digits, what are the other 3 or 4 digits I enter (the "I"s)? If you count the "I"s and digits, there are 9, not 8.

Hmmm...this is going to be fun.

Duh! I just realized that both the programmer and master PINs must be entered at the same time, thus the 8 digits. I guess the "I"s simply indicate inputs.

I'll give it a try and let you know if it works. By the way, would disconnecting the power and battery cause the system to default (resetting the PINs), or is there anything else I can do to default the system?

Thanks again.

Yeah, the "I"'s are not really I's, they are just separators. That's just the way the program translated the separators that were in the help file.

Unfortunately, unplugging the system does not default it. Security systems have non-volatile memory, so it will keep it forever without power, if need be.

You can try the defaulting method in the other post, if you're lucky, it will work. If not, you'll be replacing it anyway.

Good luck!
