Old Fashion Alarm system

I have an old fashioned house alarm. It requires taped windows connected to an electrical source with a backup battery. The windows when shut have a female/male connection to the tape. If the windows are opened without disconnecting, the alarm sounds. Recently the alarm stopped working. I've visually checked the taping and can't find a break. Is there an instrument that I can use to check for a shortage. My alarm man moved many years ago. I noticed that when he checked he did not use an instrument. He seemed to know where the break was. Maybe its time for a new alarm system. Thank you

Window tape is pretty much obsolete these days. It's so much of a pain to install and service - using glass breaks is much easier and more practical.

You can use a continuity tester to find the break, but it's probably not worth it.

It's probably about time to replace the system.
