Smoke alarm beeping in cold temps

We have a Kidde smoke detector - it's a hard wired model, so no batteries. Recently, we have noticed that when the house temp drops to about 65 or below, it starts beeping - more like a single squak every 10 seconds or so. When we turn up the heat, it will sometimes go away on its own. Sometimes fiddling with it helps but no guarantee. Any idea what's going on?

Best advice I can give you , Is replace the detector ( Its most likely dirty, you can try useing a vacume cleaner to clean dust and debris, if that doesnt work, replace it, you can get them cheap at Home Depot or Lowes.

Thanks - yes, I don't remember it being too expensive, so I could replace it. I'll try to clean it first & see if that takes care of the problem.

Do you know how dirt would lead to the specific problem I'm having? Other than when the temp in the house drops, it doesn't act strange at all.

No telling - those "cheap" smokes could act funny for any reason. You may want to try searching google to see if other people are having the same problems. You could also try using compressed air (canned air) to clean them out, but unlikely it will help.

Good luck!
