Security system w/o telephone line

How good is the security system if someone cuts the telephone line from outside before robbery? How can it be prevented. One option is to run the outside telephone wire through metal pipe. Any other option(s).

A lot depends on the capabilities of the given security control. Most modern systems can be set to go into alarm if the telecom line is cut while armed (or even while disarmed, in many cases). There are cellular backups, which are expensive, by the standards of the average user, but are a good option in the case of real security issue like a jewelry/pharmacy, or the like.

Putting the telco in conduit is a pretty good idea, as someone looking to cut a line wouldn't necessarly know if they were cutting into high voltage.

In a new construction (and several retrofit situations) you can have the NID put inside the structure.

There are a lot of options, some simple and cheap, some quite the opposite.
