Adding a siren to Motion activated lights
I have a customer who is experiencing problems with loitering and vandalism. He currently is using motion activated lighting outside his shop to deter would-be vandals. I am trying to figure out how i would go about connecting independant sirens to each of 2 independant motion activated lights. Can i simply wire the sirens into the lighting circuit? Should I use 110V relays? Any help on this would be greatly appriciated!! -Nick

Ouch! That's a tough one. Give me a little while to think about it and do some research. I have some preliminary ideas - but they are probably not very feasible.
On outdoor lights, it wouldn't be a good idea to "tap" into them - since this would compromise the integrity of the fixture (since you would have to take it apart to do it.) However, some of the motion-activated lights I have seen have motion wires that are fairly easy to get to. Depending on what he has installed, it may be an option to tap into those wires (you'd have to figure out which is the trigger wire, and what voltage it uses.) You will probably have to use a 110VAC trigger relay to 12VDC output to activate the siren, but that's actually the easy part.
Let me do some more thinking and I'll get back to you ASAP.
BTW, if you have (or can get) some make/model numbers on the lights, that would help me in my research.
Good luck!
