Reset Security Code

Reset Security Code
I purchased a house couple of years ago. It has ADEMCO keypad installed by Monitronics. I don't use the Monitronics services, but wanted to use the alarm system locally. I don't have the security code for my system and I was wondering if it is possible to somehow reset the code. I called Monitronics, but they were not willing to help.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

You can try all 9's for example
Some alarms have a generic default setup code and the installers are lazy to change the code and basically leave it wide open for people who know their alarms
I might be able to help. I have a friend who installs alarms residential/commercial but I am working at the moment...
I will forward any info as soon as I get a hold of him. We're opposite shifts for now. Just hope my timing is better than my patience...lol

You can get into an Ademco system's programming without the code using a back door. It's explained in the installer manual (which will depend on the model of system you have - check the big panel in the closet) You can find the manual at http://manuals.safewatchservice.com
The basics are:
1) Power down the system (unplug the transformer and battery)
2) Plug in the transformer
3) Within 60 seconds, press * and # on the keypad at the same time
4) You should be in programming - press #20 (this depends on the model of your system - could be #00)
5) The installer code will be read back to you (4 digits)
6) Plug in the battery
You can use the installer code to change the master code.
Good luck!
