I need some major help trying to get this zone doubling through my noggin. I had the system set up by a guy who failed to use the doubling feature and instead put 2, 3, even 4 sensors in line on 1 zone. Looks like he used resistors in the panel to wire up the connections, but its my understanding that to double the zones I need to place the resistors at the switch end, not at the control panel....am I right about this? If I place them at the sensor/switch end, am I able to remove the cover over the sensor and place the resistor in there, or do I place it below the sensor in that bit of wire that protruds from the wall? The company that I purchased the system from says that the zone doubling resistors were included and they do not sell them by themselves. Anyone know where I can obtain them now? When placing resistors across wires, should the wire be bare? Am I better off just ordering an expansion module and forgo the doubling? Are resistors used soley in the control panel in this option, or are they used at the sensor as well. Very confused..... :wall:

I just went through an in home demonstration for a fire protection system that uses a combination of photocell smoke detection and heat sensors. The sales guy used excerpts from a report that he said was from "Dateline" that showed how ineffective most common smoke detectors are on a slow buring low heat fire that produces toxic fumes, which, he claims is the number one cause of death in a modern fire. My gut reaction is that it's another sales pitch based on fear, however, after reviewing some stuff online, this guy may have a point. Anyone familier with fire and smoke detection systems want to help guide me on the effectiveness of the $20 smoke detectors purchased at the local hardware store? Thanks
