False Alarm - HELP!

I've posted this before, but still can't figure it out.

I have a DSC632. 12 Zones (1 Hardwire, 11 Wireless). 1 Keypad. 1 Wireless receiver (433 flavor).

Everything seems okay, except I keep getting "Expansion Module Tamper" alarms. It happens several times per week. I have spoken to DSC and several local alarm people who all tell me there is no expansion module in the unit, therefore shouldn't see this alarm. The local alarm guys want to charge me a fortune (since I'm not using them for monitoring) and aren't sure they'll find a solution. One told me they think it's maybe a short in the wiring....

Any help/direction/advise is appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is that the RF jamming feature is turned on, and something in your environment (wireless network, cordless phone, local cell tower, etc.) is randomly triggering a tamper.

From the 5132-433 manual:

General System Tamper - This trouble is generated when the PC5132-433
detects an RF Jamming condition.

6.2 Jamming Signal Detection
The PC5132-433 receiver detects jamming signals that can prevent the receiver from properly receiving transmissions from enrolled devices. See section 4.4 “Jamming Signal Detection” for information on jamming signal detection programming.

(Bye the bye: The keypad and wireless reciever are both "expansion modules" as far as the system is concerned.)

False Alarm

Thank you for your reply. Is there a way to turn off the RF Jamming Detection? If so, can you walk me through this on the 5500Z keypad?

Yes, it actually defaults to off, but many installers activate it as a matter of course.

enter *8 + [installer code]
enter 804 (programming the module)
enter 90 (other options)
Turn on option 7 (LED 7 should be lit)

exit programming

Also need help with the DSC 5132

I also have a DSC 5132 expansion with a DSC 1555 alarm system. I have been getting a few Expansion module tamper alarms and it is getting frustrating. The alarm was originally installed by ADT.

I thought this might be the signal jamming problem but I am not sure how to disable this feature if it is even on. Please help with more step by step instructions on how to check this.

The tech at mu monitoring company also said that these panels had an option to disable the tamper signals for expansion modules but I can't find that feature anywhere. Anyone know where this is or if it really exists.

Thanks for any help in advance!!

For the 900mhz model of the PC5132 module, that jam detect is kind of complicated. It's set up using a spare zone, and you have to figure out which one was used (generally they did it using zone 32)
From the installer manual:
RF Jam Detect Zone
For RF jamming detection to work, you must select an unused zone to be used
as the RF Jam Detect zone. When the PC5132 detects an attempt to jam the RF signal, the RF Jam Detect zone will be violated and the system will generate a tamper signal. When the jamming signal is gone, the RF Jam Detect zone closes and the system sends a tamper restore signal.
To enable RF jamming detection:
1. Enter[*][8] [Installer’s Code].
2. Enter programming section [804].
3. Select an unused zone to be the RF Jam Detect zone. Enter the 2-digit
number ([01] to [32]) of the RF Jam Detect zone on the keypad, then
program the serial number as [200000].
3. Enter section [93]. Enter the 2-digit number of the RF Jam Detect zone
([01] to [32]) in the programming section.
4. Disable supervision for the RF Jam detect zone by turning the relevant
option off in section [82], [83], [84] or [85]. (See section 4.3 for more
information.)
5. RF jamming detection is now enabled. To exit Installer programming,
press [#].
In order to get rid of it, once you know which zone was used, you have to change that serial number to 000000.

On an ADT installed system, the installer code is ususally 6321, but you will need at least the installer manual for your system so you and interpret the contents of the programming to even find the darned thing.

How do I know if it worked?

I went into the programming secion 804 and selected zone 32 and set the serial number to 000000 like you said.

Is there any way to find out if it worked -- I mean, if I did it right??

I am also not sure which zone this is so if I just did the same thing for all unused zones that would be ok right?

Thanks again in advance!!

If they did have the jam detect setup, then it should do the trick. As far as I know, that's the only thing that would have a serial number in an unused zone.

The only way to tell, is if the tamper alarms stop (probably due to cordless phones, the reason why DSC discontinued this version of their wireless system).
