Reset FBI XL1218UL?

Reset FBI XL1218UL?
When I bought my house, the previous owners didn't know the codes to the alarm system. It was powered on, but not armed so that wasn't really a problem.
Unfortunetly, keypads and blinking lights are just too much of a temptation for a geek like me, and I started playing with it. I was surprised when the siren started blaring. I realized it must have had some sort of tamper detection. So I rushed to the main box and disconnected the power and the backup battery. Whatever I triggered remains set when I power it back up again and the siren blares.
Now I'm stuck. I'd like to reset the alarm and start using it, but I don't know how. I've got several manuals:
The "User Friendly" XL1218R User's Guide to Operation and Programming
XL1218UL Hook-up & Installation
XL1218 Programming Instructions
But none of them helped. I couldn't figure it out.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to reset it? I'm hoping I don't have to call an installer or throw it out and start over. Thanks in advance....

When you powered the system down it reverted back to a fallback code this was burnt into chip by original installer look in your books for a code written down somewhere also look closely around inside panel they sometimes wrote it somewhere inside if you find that your gold if you dont your sol
