Key to access Control Panel Ademco

Just buying a Lake place with an AS IS security system by First Alert -- the only thing I can see is wireless sensors and the keypad which say FA260 -- the Contol Panel is locked --

Are the keys common for the panels -- if I call a security company can they get in to it ??

At this point I am not sure of what manula to try and find -- of cource they didn't have the codes for the system --- an investor had the place and you get what you see ---

Thanks for any hints on the keys for the First ALert/Ademco panels --- I may have to force it open --- it should be too bad it looks like a cheap disk panel lock -- I hope !!

Unless the local FA dealer changed the lock, all of the Honeywell/Ademco panels use the same key. Most alarm service companies will have a copy that they have saved from an old panel or install.

Otherwise, yes, it's more a "keep em honest" lock than anything else.

Thanks --- I will try and "pick" the lock first --- if I can get it open then I can find out the Model -- and hopefully reset and start using it ---

But it sounds like the Security people will be able to help in case my skill isn't high enough ----

Thanks for the info

Do you know if the FA260 KP is simular to the Ademco 6160 -- ?? ( lets you enter the reset code ) The FA260 is displaying FC right now -- on one line -- looks like it has two lines for display -- but thought I better not mess with it until we close and its mine ---

Have any idea what the FC means -- or where I can get manuals -- user and install ??

THANKS

FC means "Failure to Communicate". Either because there's no live phone line, or it's not connecting to the reciever it's programmed to dial into.

The FA keypads are electronically the same as the generic Ademco/Honeywell units, they are just packaged differently. I _think_ the 260 is more like the 6150, it's a fixed alpha keypad. It will suffice to get access to the codes it takes to get the system up an running.

Thank you --- makes sense

The house is now empty with the phone service turned off --- so thats what the FC means ---- thanks

If I can get the panel open --- I think I might try the power off and up process when the master code is displayed -- what do you think ???

It will be next month before we close -- so no rush

Yup, that's one procedure that's common to all of the Ademco clones. That will get you the installer code, which is what you need to set a new master code.

Had to pick the lock but got in -- its a FA 158/168 -- the eprom has 20p on v1.5 so I guessing the Vista 20p manual is what I need --- have reset the master code and a few things -- seems to be working well --

The KP are fa162 -- which are a fixed display -- think like the 6150 //

Was looking at a 6160 --does the FA 560kp -- have the same functions ? as the Ademco 6160 ??

Wanted to add a smoke -- so will need to do some programming ---

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the 6160 is the equal to the 560 (can't say that I've actually set eyes on a 560). 6160 is the current main line consumer keypad, so it should do the trick. The only real difference is that the FA keypads are usually longer in the vertical dimension, just a different visual.

WOW -- just looking at the 2-wire smokes --

Lots of choices !!!!!!

what is a good one to use ?? on the 20P Ademco

I read in here somewhere -- the two-wire are the best ? do they need to be on zone-1 only -- ??

Thanks again

Yes, two wire smokes only work on zone 1 on a 20p. My favorite are the System Sensor 2wp model. They are easy to install, and are very reliable, and are self regulating to an extent. If you want to use the "clean me" feature, it has to be one of the current ESL models.
