Confused about dialing from Security system - pager - dial

Looks like I am going to be replacing my DSC 1550 with one that is not locked out and can dial a telephone number -- my cell phone --

I am told I need one that can do Pager functions?

Why does the unit need pager -- wouldn't I be able to tell from caller ID that my house was calling ??

does the DSC 1555 have pager -- was looking at it and I didnt see that listed -- Thanks

It needs pager mode because if it doesn't, the panel will continue to try to dial the programmed number until it runs out the count down to "communication failure" (usually 5 to 8 attempts). Alarm panels are designed to connect to central station recievers. Having them call a cell phone is a new thing that the industry is still adjusting to, and there is no easy way to set a cell phone to generate the "kiss off" tones that tell the alarm panel that it completed it's call. Pager mode doesn't require a kiss-off.
