Question Please help with my new 2 keypads and DSC 832 PC5012 v2.0 System???

Hello, please help?

Last week I've installed my alarm system and got suck with the programing the Keypads for my new home.

My system consist of the following:
- Keypad #1 - LCD5501Z
- Keypad #2 - LCD5500Z
- DSC 832 PC5012 v2.0 system
- Delay Zone 1 - Front Door and Garage Door (Closed circuit in series)
- Delay Zone 2 - Patio Door (Closed circuit)
- Instant Zone 3 Main Floor Windows (Closed circuit in series)
- Interior Zone 4 Basement Windows (Closed circuit in series)
- Interior Stay/Away Zone 5 (Open not used)
- Delay Zone 6 Delay Stay/Away Zone - 1 Motion Sensor (Closed circuit)
- Zone 7 and 8 are open and not used

I've set the Time and put in a new User Access code only on one Keypad (LCD5500Z) but have dificulties with Keypad (LCD5501Z). Both my Keypads are saying that all Zones are "OPEN", I tried to inrole the keypads but failed even by following the easy to follow not so "User Friendly" manual!!! The keypads reads all Zone are still open! How do I turn off the unused Zones and enable the used Zone so they read "Closed" in Laymen terms? The Chine works great when my Zone 1, 2 and 3 circuit is broken, and that's as far as I've gotten. I can't even use the alarm system yet until if you can help me program these keypads, please? I've hit a brick wall

Did you install the zone resistor in the loops?

If you don't want to use them, then you have to go into programming and turn off the requirement in the first system option section.

Resistors applied to zone loops...

Hi MrRonFL,

Yes I did apply the 56K resistor at the end of the loops, but only on the common terminal. Should I change it and apply one resistor to each of the loops on the positive end instead?

The 5.6k resistor only needs to be in the loop, but each loop needs it's own resistor (your description sounds like you are trying to use 1 resistor for two zones).

It doesn't mattter if its on the common or zone side of the loop. I assume that you have verified that you have continuity on the loops?

Continuity on the loops

Hi MrRonFL,

Yes, I do have continuity on the loops per each zone. They are all closed circuits, but the keypads reads "OPEN". For the Zones that are not being used, should I close it with a resistor as a circuit on the terminal connectors?

Yes, install resistors on unused zones.

Finally, it's working...!

Hi MrRonFL,

Thank you very much for your advise, it help greatly. I'm a little lost when trying to read a non-friedly version of the installation manual for the DSC 832 Alarm System...

Thanks again,

KC

Don't feel badly, professional installers have problems with DSC manuals. Their layout tends to be a bit confusing.
