I have a DSS Power 832 PC5010 Ver 2 with two LCD5501Z key pads. I installed the system in July and re-set the master code and installer code from the defaults that came with the system. Right before Christmas, I tried to disabled the chime so "Santa" could sneak in the front door. I did throught the programing mode which was a mistake because I started pressing numbers using my memory as the guide. Big mistake. Anyway, I ended up with the trouble light being permanently on. When I do a *2 the trouble light flashes but no number appears to show the problem. There are no beeps every 10 seconds as the manual describes. I also noticed that my installer number no longer works...however the master code still works.

In desparation, I followed the hardware default reset procedure in the manual including touching a wire from PGM1 to Zone 1. At the end of the procedure, I get the trouble light flashing with beeps every 10 seconds. The installer number that I originally programed doesn't work. I can re set the time because it only requires the master code...but again, can not access the installer code anymore.

With the master code still in tact, is there any input that I can try to see if I can recover my system?

I am not a monitored system. I can still set the alarm when I leave and use my master code to re-enter, but I would sure like to get rid of that annoying trouble light.

If the master code did not revert to 1234, then you did not default the panel. When you tried the default procedure, did you fully power down the panel, make the wiring connection, power up, then remove the jumper from PGM1 to zone 1?

 

Ahhh....
I didn't leave the jumper on when I powered up. It just said to take a piece of wire and short the connection. I did that just for a second or two. You are saying what I should have done is leave the jumper on while I power up...then remove it. I will do that MrRon.

By the way, while searching this web site prior to posting, I've noticed that you're the guy who solves most of the problems. Thanks for spending so much time helping all of us. It truly is appreciated.

Well, the reboot of the system went well when I did it with the change you recommended. It even reset the installer code to 5010 which I thought it wouldn't do according to some of the threads I've read.

When the system was back up and working, the trouble light was blinking again. I followed each of the steps in the book starting with key pad assignment, then enabling supervision and finally to start programing the system. The first thing I did was to hit the *2 and it gave me the number 8 which of course is the time reset. When I completed the time set, the trouble light was blinking and this time it gave me the number 3. I read my manual and it said to check section 370 and 380. Because I'm not hooked up to a phone line, I disabled the first 3 Swinger Shutdown options in Sections 370 and turned the number 1 option on Section 380 to off. When I hit the # to get out of the program mode the trouble light stopped blinking and stayed on steady. Now when I do a *2 the trouble light will start to blink, but no number appears on the LCD.

Everything that I programmed works. The alarm sets, the doors chime when I go in and out. It let me re program the installer number and the master number....but that dang yellow light just won't go out!

Any suggestions?

 

Try this thread. Your problem sounds like a clone of this person's problem.

 

Thanks MrRon. That did the trick. Here is what I did:

Press *8, Installer Code, 000, 6
IF (only if) the 4 light is lit press 4 to turn it off
Then press #,#,# to exit

When I did the *8, Installer Code, 000, 6 the numbers from 1 to 6 all appeared on my display. I pressed the 4 to turn it off and did the exit procedure as described and my trouble light went out.

I did have to perform this individually on both of my key pads.

It seems to be an odd side effect of defaulting the system with these 5501z keypads. I've not found a clear explaination in the tech support database that DSC keeps.
