DSC PC 550 access code

Hi. My Wife and I purchased and moved into a condo last year that had 2 previous owners. As my wife and I never met either party, because everything was done through the real estate agents, I never got the code. After toying with the system a bit I found that the battery was cracked on the side and therefore useless. I've just purchased and replaced the battery and figured that the system would start from scratch , but it remains in an armed state so I figure it must need the code (which I don't have ) in order to put my own code in.(sorry for the long story ) Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.
Stephen

Well, there is a way to default the thing, but it means that you have to start from scratch. This is one of DSC's oldest and most basic models, so there's not a huge amount to reprogram.

Did they write what the zones were on the label on the keypad? At most there are 4, so if we have to puzzle them out, it won't be tough. With any luck, they wired them according to the default zone configuration.

To default the panel:
1 Remove all power, AC and battery, from the PC550
2 Remove all wiring connections from the PGM and Zone 1 terminals
3 Connect the PGM and Zone 1 terminals together
4 Apply power to the PC550 and wait for 10 seconds
5 After approximately 10 seconds, the keypad sounder will beep and Zone Light 1 will come ON
6 Remove all power, AC and battery, from the PC550
7 Remove the connection between the PGM and Zone 1 terminals
8 Re-connect original wiring to the PGM and Zone 1 terminals
9 Restore power to the PC550; the Programming Sections have now been restored to the factory default settings

The installer code will be 0550, and the master code will be 1234.

Zone 1 will be a entry exit delay (120 sec out, 30 sec in)
Zone 2 will be an instant
zones 3 and 4 will be interior (motion detector, etc.)

If this doesn't match your existing zones, the you will have to do a bit of programming.

To change the master code, enter *5 + [master code]
Zone Light 1 will be ON to indicate that the Master Code is programmed with the factory default code (1234).
To change Access Codes 1 to 4, enter the number of the code to be changed; the corresponding zone light will begin to FLASH. Enter a new 4-digit Access Code; do not press[*] or [#] when entering the code. After the code is entered, the keypad will beep 3 times and the zone light will stop flashing and remain ON. If an existing code is being changed, the new code will replace the old one. If another code is to be changed, press the number key for the code to be programmed and enter the new 4-digit code. When all desired changes are complete, press the [#] Key to return to “Ready”.

I _think_ that the communicator defaults to off on this model, if you get a communicator trouble, it's not too tough to fix.

Go here for the User manual.

The PGM is the one with the label PGM under it. The zone 1 is the one labeled Z1.

Found PGM OUT next to Z1....there is no wire going into PGM OUT and doesn't look like there ever was, as there is no loose wire left over

You are supposed to use a piece of scrap wire to connect the two terminals. Any small gauge wire will do.

On this model panel, that terminal was rarely used, so I'm not surprised that there's nothing currently connected to it.
