ADT Contract about to end...suggestions?

I have an ADT Concord Express system that I had installed 2 years ago. I signed a 24 month agreement, and that is about to end. I don't think I want to sign a new contract, so what options do I have?
1. Will ADT disable the system if I don't renew? Or do they just no longer monitor it?
2. Can the number that is called (to go to ADT) when the alarm goes off, can that be changed to a different number (like my cell phone)?
3. Would a different company be able to use this system?

Thanks for your help.

Yes it's a generic system that can be switched to another monitoring service. Normally, they just end the contract and ignore any transmissions, but sometimes they send a shutdown command. I'd play it safe and unplug the phone cord. If you have a programming keypad (full alphanumeric) you can disable all of the remote programmin and phone number information.

Thanks for the info. I do not have a full alphanumeric keypad, so do I have any other options on reprograming where the system calls if the alarm goes off?

No. Concord express systems cannot access anything beyond the user programming level without the alphanumeric keypad.

You need to find out if you own the hardware or if it is a leased system. With the majority of ADT system's they are leased, meaning they own the system. If this is the case they will most likely send a tech to come take the equipment out when you cancel the contract with them, not just a shutdown command.

On the other hand if its your equipment, then most local companies can monitor this sytem and will likely take it over for no charge except the monthly monitoring costs.

Okay, the system is mine. Where can I get an alphanumeric keypad so I can do the programming?

Websearch using the phrase "Concord express Superbus 2000 keypad", and pick the vendor that looks most trustworthy to you.

Okay, I have decided to cancel my ADT contract (well, not renew it). Should I unplug the phone line the day before the contract ends?

I plan on reprogramming it to call my cell phone if the alarm goes off. It is a Concord Express and I need to buy an Alphanumeric keypad to do that. Or, can I call an "independant" security installer to reprogram it for me? Is that something that they will do, or is it a no-no in the industry?

jefxp: I'd unplug it from the phone lines until you program out the downloader codes and phone numbers (Once these numbers are programed out ADT call it all they want, it will not let them in). Once you've reprogramed plug the line back in.

Most likely a local contractor will not come out just to reprogram the system, in the security world a contractor will rarely do work unless there getting the monthly monitoring fees out of it. The express is a simple system to program, I can get you a pdf format of the installers manual if you'd like. Just contact me via pm's with an email, you'll also need your alpha keypad.

That one is listed for the Advent systems. I _think_ it's compatible with Concord, but the 60-746-01 model listed on the same site is definitely listed as compatible.
