DSC PC2500 master code

I'm the third owner of my house and the second owner didn't know the code so I'm stuck. I really don't want to purchase a new security system, what are my options? I can't arm it or anything.

Try keying in *8 2500. If the keypad beeps rapidly and the program light comes on, then you are in luck. Press # until it goes back to normal run mode, and let us know.

If not, power the system down (battery and AC power). Listening carefully at the circuit board in the battery cabinet, restore power. If you do not hear a series of 10 rapid clicks, then you will be able to default the system and start over. Again, let us know.

If it clicks, then you have a problem; short of a lucky guess at the installer code, your only option is to replace at least the motherboard, or the keypad(s) and control.

When I punched in *8 2500 it beaped and the armed light came on and the program light started to flash. I then pressed # and it went back into the other mode. Am I in luck?

You are indeed in luck. Eventually, you will want to get the installer manual for this thing, but for now:

enter *8 2500
enter 19
enter [new 4-digit master code]
press # until you return to run mode.

That should give you basic control on the system. You can get the user manual from the DSC.com website, but the installer manual will have to come from a third party. Given the age of the system, it's a 50-50 chance you will find it for free.

That worked! Thanks. Any idea how long the alarm will sound if triggered?

The typical default is 5-8minutes. It's a programmable variable, so there's no telling.
