DSC 1550 keypad and other issues-HELP

I have a couple of questions. We have not used our system for a couple of years. WE only use the door chime feature. The system is not monitored.

Issues: Battery died so i replaced it. Now I have pluged the system back in to the power supply and plug in the battery. The alarm goes off in intervals of a few seconds. But my keypad is dead as a door nail so i cannot do anything. What do i do here?

HELLLLPPP!!!!

How did you power it down? Just unplug it or did you remove wiring?

Most likely situation is that when you powered it down. It was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. Seen it a few times with DSC panels before of that age. The power down just let it die so to speak.

But i would check all wiring connections and make sure you have 12VDC at the keypad.

We did not touch the wiring-in either place. We left the unit plugged in to the wall, with out the battery.

Sorry i don't understand what you mean by "12VDC at the keypad". The key pad has never been touched. All the wires are the connected as they where originally. That is why this is so strange.

Is there a reset? Or does this happen when you unplug from the wall (main box). Don't know what could be wrong, the key pad is just dead and there is power to the wall in which it is mounted. Still have the issue with the alarm going off every few seconds when i hook the battery up.

Thanks for you help!

The 1550 has a seperate fuse for the keypad. It't the right most of the three along the top edge of the main PC board.

Check that fuse. If it's good, and your keypad is not showing any signs of life, it is very possible that the panel kicked the bucket. When DSC panels die from things like power supply failure they get some pretty odd effects.

If you simply reconnected the original battery without checking it, it is very possible that the battery has failed in an internal short and is shutting down the system. These gel cell batteries last about 5-7 years, on average, but being fully drained, or left to sit too long without a float charge is the kiss of death.

Thank you for the info.

There are three removable fuses-They are marked, from left to right- Batt, Aux, Bell. These fuses look fine. There is a fuse that looks saudered in at the top and bottom, to the left of all three of these. Is this the one you are speaking about?

If the key pad died i would assume it was an issue with the circut board on the back of it. Since there are no batteries and it is wired direct. Also where would i begin to look for a replace ment?

Any other trouble shooting ideas for this keypad? before i give up on it?

The Aux fuse supplies the keypad. I was looking through bleary eyes at a laptop screen the first time.

Check for 12v at the Aux power terminals and at the red and black wires at the keypad. If there's power at both points, then the keypad may have checked out on you.

This is an out of production system. It was pretty common, so you have a pretty good chance of finding another keypad in someones back stock or an online selling site.

Just realize that this thing may simply be on it's last legs.
This is a very simple system. There's not a lot to check.

ok the fuse was the issue on getting the panel to come on. Now i still cannot get the siren to go off. Also to spite the new battery, my trouble light is still and on says this trouble is low battery.

Not sure what to do here. is there a code to completely reset the system? I have tried disconnecting it by unplugging the main box from the socket, but the siren still goes off.

I feel i am close to getting this figured out i think. Just need to see if reseting the entire system might do the trick.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dmitchell

If you mean that it's powering up in alarm, then yes some systems were programmed to power up in the last state. You might want to check the battery fuse (also one of the three on the row on the PC board). These systems do often take quite awhile to register a battery replacement.

If the system isn't taking your master code, or you don't remember any of the user codes for the system, then you pretty much are stuck having to do a hardware default.

Do you have an installation manual for this system? There is a hardware defaulting process, but it means reprogramming all of the system settings, and you will need the reference.

Hi,
I have exaxt same issue with my PC1500 when i unplug transformer and battery. now when i reconnect the AC (not the battery since it is an old battery when we bought the house), and I did the hardware reset for the model follow the manual, and also did the software reset after that using the default codes (installer 1500 and master 1234). And after all that resets, now siren goes off every 2 minutes, and the trouble light is on, *[2] has only zone light 1 lid, and once i hit # all the zone lights lid up together with the trouble light. what possible the issue? please help!!!

Please read the FAQ: When you default DSC panels you turn the requirement for zone resistors back on (and most installers don't use them for these panels in residential installs). That's the reason all of the zone lights are on.

Zone 6 defaults to being a fire zone, so that's what's kicking it into alarm. In order to get into programming, you will need to temporarily take the wires off of that zone (you cannot enter programming with an active alarm).

It's all there in your installer manual.
