DSC PC5010 832 Fire Alarm Battery Replacement?

I own a DSC Power 832 and last night our alarm went off due to a low battery in the Fire Alarm. My question is do I really have to call a tech to come out and replace the battery or can I do it myself? If I can do it myself what steps do I need to take in order to do it. Also I tried to bypass the zone so I could set my alarm until I get it figured out, however it will not let me after I followed the bypassing instructions. Anyway around that either?

Thanks

Did you get a false alarm from a smoke detector that is attached to the alarm system, or was this a residential grade 110v w/ battery backup smoke detector.

In either case, you can change the battery yourself, but they aren't one and the same. The standard hardware store smokes use 9v batteries. System type smoke detectors are powered by the alarm panel (which has it's own back up battery).

The oddball exception to this is wireless smokes, which are also a DIY battery replacement. These do have a tamper switch, so if your system is monitored (calls out), just call the monitoring service and have the system put on "test", because this type of smoke sometimes goes into alarm when the new battery is installed and it's put back on it's mounting bracket.

Yes it was a false alarm from a smoke detector and I guess I just assumed that it was because of a low battery. However I'm not sure what kind of smoke detector I have, either wireless or not. I didn't even think about the fact that it would be wired to the alarm battery. I do know that it has a bright yellow warning stick on the detector itself that says something to the effect "touching terminals can cause serious shock". I was able to reset my alarm system and zone 8 is not showing a problem, and is in ready mood allowing me to set it in stay mood. I guess we'll see how it goes tonight as neighbors must have loved the 4am wake up call they got this morning. By the way my system is not monitored.

Thanks for your help!
