Constrant trouble light and beep on install: DSC PC5010 - LCD5501Z
I've searched the forum, but have been unable to find anyone with a similar situation to mine. I've completed wiring a Power 832 system, purchased from ebay (mistake?). This is the 3rd similar system a friend and I have installed and set-up (other 2 were Power 632 - and had no issues). On initial power up, the keypad showed the time "12:00", but after ~ 20-30 seconds, the trouble light comes on, and the keypad emits a constant beeping, and is unresponsive to any keystrokes. If I try entering programming mode before the initial 20-30 seconds, I can only enter 5 keystrokes before it becomes unresponsive. For example, if I try to enter programming mode, I can press *8 555 then it goes dead. Pressing *2 on initial power up does nothing. I've tried a hardware reset (power down, short PGM1 and Zone1, power up - key sequence as per manual), but nothing happens. I've tried # 1 (holding them 3 seconds) thinking maybe the keypad was assigned as global or on partition 2, but again, this does not work. I can still only enter 5 keystrokes after doing the # 1 sequence. For background, after the initial wiring, when I turned it on, the siren also sounded when the trouble light was on. I started disconnecting components until I had only the keypad on. Still the same problem. I've also tried a second LCD-5501Z keypad directly wired to the keybus, with the same result. I'm starting the think I've got a 'DOA' PC5010 board. Any help reviving it would be greatly appreciated.

Dan.

If I had to guess, I'd say the thing was powered down while in alarm and the "power up in previous state" option was activated.
Another possibility, is that it was shut down using the download software
I'm not sure that the hardware reset will bypass that.
Programming wise, PC5010 and PC1555 are pretty much the same, there are just more active options on the 5010. The correct default install code on a Power 832 is 5010.
Especially if it was used before, it's hard to tell, especially with 5501 keypad. The install instructions were written for the LED keypad or the 5500z keypad, and you don't get quite the same indicators on that fixed alpha unit.
You can try dummy loading the input zones

Thanks.
Based on your response, and the problem I'm having, it would seem the system is not new, therefore I'm not sure of the master code. I tried using 5010, 1234, 5555 upon power up, as you suggested perhaps the system was powered down while in alarm state. It did not work: hopefully the ebay seller will come through with a confirmed code.
Just a bit more background, when I power up, the display reads the time "12:00". As soon as I press one key, the display on the keypad goes blank (again, I can press 5 keys before the keypad stops reacting - ie does not beep when I press a button). This 'blank' state lasts ~ 15-20 seconds, then the clock comes back at "12:00", and the trouble light comes on. After another short delay (~ 5sec) the keypad goes into its loooong beep until I unplug it.
Is the software you speak of available online as shareware, or is it a separate purchase? In my flurry of uneducated security system purchases made as I was building my house, I also picked up a pc link for programming the unit. I'll dig it up and see if it helps.

The download software is kinda finicky, and while it's available from some alarm vendor websites, it's no more user-friendly than hand programming for a DSC.
If the system has been shutdown with it, there's a code programmed in the software that needs to match the panel (same issue as installer code).
If you have the pc-link unit (whoever sold you the pc-link probably has the software), you might be luck out. It's worth a shot...

I found the link to the software from the vendor of the PC-Link, but it keeps crashing when I try to connect to the board. I've also had a response (kind of) from DSC technical support. The technician indicated he is limited in the amount of support he can give to end-users (ridiculous), but he did say the panel is not recognizing the keypad. Not really sure where to go from here.

I know it sounds silly, but think about it: If just anyone could call and get technical details on a security system, that gives one a lot of information on how to defeat said system. Needless to say, it's a liability can of worms that the manufacturers don't want to deal with.
The fact that (as flaky as it is) the software crashes every time you try to direct connect is a bad sign. It links in through part of the keypad data bus. I have a nasty suspicion that your motherboard is not healthy.

This is a valid point regarding potential support issues. Thanks for your help thus far. I knew I was gambling a bit by purchasing the system from ebay, but I started feeling pretty comfortable when the other 2 systems were installed without a hitch. Looks like I'll just have to purchase a new board. Now the next logical questions is: "Should I purchase a PC5010, or is there another board that is recommended?"

If your keypad is beeping and not doing anything other than displaying 12:00. This is what happens if you have the yellow and green wires reversed. Cant communicate with the panel. Check the wiring to confirm that the Y terminal goes to the Y terminal and the G terminal to the G terminal
