Ademco Vista 10 keypad

Does anyone know if the Ademco Vista 10 keypad is supposed to be lit at night? The buttons looks like they should be lit, but I haven't had any lighted numbers since I bought the house. And if so, can I remove the front face of the keypad without triggering some type of alarm?

None of the keypads I have played with had tamper switches on them.

Do you have good access code? Do you know what keypad you have?

6150 & 6150V & 6160 & 6160V: • Soft-touch rubber keys, continuously backlit for greater visibility.

I do not know about the older units...

Nearly all of the Ademco keypads have display backlighting, but none on the keys.

My keypad is a Ademco N5976V1. Well, thats what it says on the drop down door thingy. I have clear rubberized keys. The only way I can see the pad at all is to turn on the hall light. The LCD display does not light up, when I say that, I mean at night. neither does the keys. I actually found the same keypad on ebay. Heres a link to see what my looks l ike.

That is an Ademco 6127 / 6128

The manual for the 6128 can be found here...

http://nassausecurity.com/usermanuals/6128-39im.pdf

But it says the keypad is backlit so I will guess that the 6127 is also back lit.

The keys on the keypads are located behind a decorative door, and are continuously backlit for convenience.

I bet if you replace the keypad with a newer model the keys will be backlit again.

If you have a Vista 10 you can get a 6150 or 6160.

6150
http://www.security.honeywell.com/hsce/products/keypad/wi/ad/21091.html

6160
http://www.security.honeywell.com/hsce/products/keypad/wi/ad/21094.html

Both say they are Fully compatible with all VISTA controls.

Maybe MrRonFL can say for sure!!

I seem to be having one of those weekends. Looking at an old 6128 keypad, they do have LEDs on the board behind the key membrane as well as the display. Probably the ones on your old keypad failed (they are most likely interconnected).

As far as I can tell, the 6150/6160 is the replacement (assuming that you have a Vista-10se; I can't say for sure if it will work with the older Vista-10).

Just make sure the model you're replacing does NOT have your wireless reciever built into it (I don't have the pn in my truck anywhere so I couldn't tell ya) but it looks exactly like the old 6128's. If you don't have wireless, then no worries

I just figured out we had wireless today. I noticed those boxes near the windows and doors, and pulled cover off, noticed that battery inside. And those wireless boxes have a tamper alarm in them, because when I pulled off the cover, the alarm was chirping. Normal indication when removing the covers I guess.

When you remove the keypad from the mount, take a look at the backside of the circuit board. If you notice that the keypad has an exposed metal wire running the length and width of 1 side each, that keypad is also functioning as your wireless receiver.

If that is the case, check any other keypads in your house for the same thing.

If you have another one much the same, you can probably change one out without consequence. If it's the only one in your house, you'll either need to replace it with another like keypad, or add and program in a new wireless receiver and just replace that one with a 6150 or 6160.

Thanks for the info. The keypad itself is hardwired to the alarm box. The alarm box has the wireless antenna in it.

Ahhh .. So your alarm cabinet has the wireless receiver board with the antennas sticking out of it and the Control Panel board inside

That’s great then all you need to do is replace the Keypad

Smile Ademco Vista Control Panel

Your panel is most likely a model 6127RF, which does not have LED's to light the panel. The 6128RF does, and thats the only difference.

I am told the 6150RF will replace the 6127/6128. You can find several available on Ebay.
