Adding windows sensors to Vista 10
I want to install 4-5 more wireless window sensors to my Ademco Vista 10 system. Currently I have 3 wireless connected along with some hardwired door sensors. My question is, if I get say, a couple Ademco 5816's and some magnets, what type of programming is there? Is it just like plug and play, or what? The wireless reciever in my system says, 5881M if that helps. I may get glass break sensors as well, but starting with some more magnetic sensors. Thank you.

No, it's _not_ plug and play. You need to have the two-line alphanumeric keypad (6139 or 6160, or equivalent) to program these transmitters into the system.
Your reciever allows up to 16 wireless transmitters on this system (I assume that you mean Vista-10se).

Yes, I got the Vista 10SE with the proper keypad. Thanks for your help. My sensors will be on the way and Iwill just have to have my alarm company walk me through the programming.

Ok people, after calling my alarm shop, they want $30 for 15 minutes of programming time, so, can anyone type me up a "how-to" on adding additional wireless window sensors to my Vista 10SE system with Ademco 6128 keypad, or a website with a FREE programming guide? I currently have 3 wireless window sensors. My wireless receiver I believe is a 5881. Thank you for any help you can provide.

You can't do it with the 6128 keypad. You will not see the prompts that you need to pull this off.
Web search around for "ademco Vista-10se installation programming". These have been on the market for awhile, someone likely has it for free. If not, there are plenty of people with nominal fees downloads of the manuals (the programming form is seperate from the installer manual, by the way). After all, bandwidth and storage aren't free.

How does this get done then? I found the programming guide online for free, but it might as well be written in Arabic. I think I might call the alarm shop and pay the $30 for them to walk me through it. Is there a way to program them through the box? Must have programmed them somehow since I already have 3 operational wireless sensors.

A most of the people who install ademco hardware have one of the two line alpha keypads that they can temporarily connect to the system to program the thing, then they disconnect it and leave the fixed alpha keypad (which can do everything except program zone setup and a couple of other advanced programming functions). Otherwise, a lot of companies like ADT program the systems remotely using dial-up software.
It _is_ possible to program zones blindly, but if you are having trouble following the installer manual, then that route will just frustrate you. To do it you have to be able to follow the steps without seeing the prompts.

Thanks Ron. I remember my alarm company dialing into my system and setting stuff up. Looks like I gotta call them and fork out the money. Also, can I order a newer model keypad and just wire it up where this old one is without having a Doctorits is programming?
