No Master Code - Ademco Vista 4140XMP

I have the Ademco Vista 4140 XMP home security system. When I purchased my home, the previous owner did not remember the master (or any) code. How do I reset it? I have searched online, but no manuals explain. Thank you!!!

Ademco 4140xmp: Retrieving Installer code
Nearly all Ademco family (this includes First Alert, Security Link, and several ADT models) panels can retrieve the Installer code by disconnecting the battery, then the AC power. Wait a minute, then reconnect power in the opposite order. Within 50 seconds, on any keypad press * + # at the same time. Unless the system has had an installer lockout feature activated, the panel should go into program mode. Key in #00, and the panel will read back the installer code one digit at a time. Key in #01 and the panel will read back the master code. You can change either code by entering *00 or *01 respectively followed by the desired new code. Exit program mode using *99.

Ademco

Thank you. However, maybe I did something wrong. When pressing the * and # at the same time, it set off the alarm - panic mode!

Angry Re-Secondary codes

I have a 4140xmp alarm panel and have the same deal. The code we have used for years is too well known. Cleaner's, babysitter's pet sitters and neighbors..... Unfortunately, looks like I will have to go through the process of overiding 70 codes possibilities. Gone through 20 so far and still not gotten it out.. I was afraid this would be the case. Great panel tho. Have had this thing 21 years and still works great!
Thanks for the help...
