Vista20 Wireless Zone Programming w/ 6128 KeyPad

I have an Ademco Vista20 with 5881 16-zone wireless adapter. My system has 2 - 6128 keypads. I am following programming instructions for adding a new wireless zone without luck. All of the install manual instructions refer to "Text Prompts" and my keypad doesn't display any text prompts. It appears to be only reveiwing current zone setup values. I feel like my keypads are "User Keypads".

Is there some other form of keypad, ie "Programmer's Keypad", that displays texts prompts the way the Installer's Manual shows?

What it's refering to is the Ademco line of 6160 keypads.

Do a search on them; you're bound to find what you're looking for.

Vista20 Wireless Zone Programming w/ 6128 Keypad

Thanks for the quick response...I looked up the 6160 and it looks like a nicer keypad that the simple model we have. Plus, it's cheaper than the cost of a service call for the alarm company.

The 6160 keypad description says that it's compatable with all Vista panels.

Does the 6160 keypad just plug in place of one of the exisitng 6128 keypads? (ie No re-wiring or panel configuration)

Is the panel a Vista 20se or a Vista 20p? For the first one, it's just a straight keypad swap. For the second, the correct address needs to be set on the keypad.

Vista20 Wireless Zone Programming w/ 6128 KeyPad

I thought it was a SE. I pressed 1 & 3 and it reported the house ID as 31. I looked over the controller and panel drawing throughly and there's nothing in the panel with SE or P, only -VS20- in one place and -Vista 20- in another. The main board has a silkscreen number -SAVS20GEN- and the RF Receiver has -SA5881-MED-.

Do you know how else that I can tell if it's an -SE- or a -P-?

If the 6160 keypad will work with either one, this may not matter. I can try House ID = 0, it it doesn't communicate then change it to 31. Am I right on this?

It's an SE. It will be on the diagram on the panel enclosure door.

That's not a house ID, that's a keypad set for non-addressable mode. The keypad will be a simple swap out.

That clears this question. Not knowing my exact model [SE] made it tough to find the correct docs. I downloaded all of the SE docs and after looking over the installer's manual, I think the 6160 will make the programming task match the procedure.
Thanks,
Carey
