GSM modules for the NX-8E???
So I have the NX-8E and I have monitoring using my landline but I want to add a GSM module to call using the cell tower in case the phone lines are cut.
Does the NX-591E module provide a GSM capabilities. I was told that the regular cellular modules will not be supported after 2008 and that I need to go to GSM. Is the NX-591E GSM or is there something else I'd use.
Also, Who do contract with to get the service? your monitoring company or GE?

You actually have a few options here...the 2008 date is highly speculative (there is a bill before congress asking for an extension, via ADT).
One is to use a service called Alarm.Com. It provides digital cell back up as well as internet control of a customer's panel (arm, disarm, light control, email, text message, phone notification, etc). You can keep it simple if you want (just cell back up), but you do have the ability to add the other stuff. You pay Alarm.Com a monthly fee (comparible to what other cell back up runs) in addition to the cost of the Gateway module (radio).
Another option is the 590 module which is an Ethernet Interface Module. It allows you to report over the internet to a central station. The catch here is that you need an Osbourne Hoffman receiver at the central station in order to get the signals. An added benefit to this module is that you can upload/download over the internet using the DL 900 software for NetworX (Caddx) panels (lightning fast). The key here is having the Osbourne Hoffman receiver!
