fire/trouble on napco alarm system

i know my alarm system is outdated but i cannot really afford to replace it right now. my alarm was set and during a storm the alarm did not go off, however the keypad went off showing all the zones. so i reset each zone using the 9 key. however the red trouble /fire light is staying on steady and i cannot get it to shut off using the reset 9 key. because the light is on steady i cannot set my alarm. how do i get this light to shut off? is there something i can disconnect? please help. my system is napco 1000 or 1008 and the key pad is rp1054d

thank you

What likely happened is that the power kicking on and off tripped one or more of your smoke detectors (which means that you probably need a new backup battery...)

From the User manual for a Napco 1054d keypad (available here: http://www.napcosecurity.com/images/usermanuals/RP1054D_OI142_USER.pdf):

"Resetting After An Alarm
The fire alarm may be reset by holding
down Key [9] for 2 seconds, then arming and
disarming or (if so programmed) by waiting
for it to automatically shut off. The sounder
and the FIRE/TROUBLE light will stay on. Hold
down Key [9] to silence the sounder. The red
FIRE/TROUBLE light should go off in about 30
seconds. If smoke has not cleared from a
smoke detector, or a thermostat has not
cooled, the red FIRE/TROUBLE light will remain
on. Hold down Key [9] every 30 seconds
or so until the condition has cleared and the
light goes off."

If it doesn't reset after that, you might have a damaged smoke detector in the system.
