DSC Power 832 - PC5010

Hey all, I have a PC 5010 DSC Power 832 new system. House was prewired and I installed the new system easily. Used a few old components that I had such as motion sensors and the siren. Prior to this system I had the PC1550 and it worked great just wanted to upgrade the board and get the new LCD keypad. Only problem is now the siren makes a high frequency noise almost like a humming when the system is not armed...any ideas why? ALso, I have it setup that the panel calls my cell incase of an alarm, works great and all except the fact that I cannot clear the trouble light "Communications Error" after an alarm has gone off. I would have thought punching in my code and then disarming would clear it but no go. ANy ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
TS

Unhappy

Well I have finally solved the buzzing from my siren, installed a 1K resistor accross the bell +ve and -ve terminals and all is well. But I still have the trouble light that I cannot get rid of. One more thing that I noticed my dialer is connected to a stand alone bell jack. The jac goes directly to my bell box in the house (where the phone line comes into the house) I have noticed that while the dialer is calling my cell (which I have it set to try 3 times) I cannot get a line out on my landline. How do I wire the jack from the dialer to my bell box so that I can still get a line out incase of an alarm and I need to dial the police while the dialer is calling my cell. Sorry for all the confusion but as always appreciate the help here.

There is a line seizure module installed which is required if you have monitoring.

This allows the panel to seize the phone line in case of an alarm.

To eliminate this, remove the seizer module (where phone cord attached too) and install a normal telephone jack.

You are also getting the commincations error because the panel is not "kissing off/handshaking" to the monitoring company. I dont know if there is a workaround for this. Maybe MrRon would know.

You can't have the panel call your cell and you have call the police at the same time unless you have two phone lines.

Once the alarm triggers, the panel is going to try to call and call and call until it gets through.

Ummm, the line seizure jack wiring is normal and correct. It's not a bug, it's a feature. It keeps someone from preventing alarm dial our by the simple trick of taking another phone in the house off hook.

Your problem is that you are trying to dial your phone using a central station format. You need to set your panel to use "Pager format" instead. If you got this far in programming and setup, you should be sort out the instructions in your installer manual....

Look through some of our archived posts concerning the Power series DSC systems, they come up in the forums a lot. DSC manuals are notoriously difficult to follow.

Thanks guys for your prompt responses, guess I was misinformed thought there was a way to wire the dialer with "4 wires" so that I could still use the house phone in case of an alarm, but your right MRRONFL, it makes sense to override the house line.

As for the "pager format" I have reviewed the installers manual and seen "Communicator - Reporting format" Section 360, is that all I have to do is enter section 360 then enter "05" for pager format, reading further it says that I need to follow my cell number with two "EE" for pager format??? Before doing this will it clear the previous trouble light, as the trouble light is still lit up on my keypad.

Thanks in advance guys.

It should clear it, but you may need to power down and restart the panel after changing the format (you will still need to set the clock). The "failure to communicate trouble" tends to be persistant.

Normally, the communication from the panel only takes over the phone line for about 20 to 30 seconds. It's only when you get into a failure to communicate loop where it keeps dialing repeatedly that the panel holds the line for an excessive length of time.

Great seems to be working just fine now, I changed section 360 to 05 which is pager format and then added my cell number followed by two "EE". Tested it and it seemed to work. One more thing while I was experimenting, what is the normal setting for motion sensors in the home, this motion sensor would be tripped if I was setting the alarm and then going to bed. SO I would need some delay when I awoke and was going to turn the system off.

The best setting for a motion that is in the path that you have to pass to arm and disarm is "interior stay/away" (type 5, I think). It will automatically bypass if you do not open and close an entry/exit door, and on entry follows the same delay timing as the entry exit door.
