Problems with Vista 20P
I have the following:
Vista 20p
6160V keypad
5883h transceiver
1 wired ms
3 rf motions
4 rf door transmitters
elk siren driver
speaker
I have all connected and programmed including setting the keypad to address #16
I can still get into programming using the installation code but I cannot seem to get the keypad to work.
It will not arm the system even though the keypad says ready to arm and it will show when one of the devices is activated i.e. door contact or ms
How on earth do I get the system to arm and disarm. I tried various keys and once for some reason I was able to arm the system with what I think is the installation code but was unable to disarm it so I had to kill the power when the alarm went off. I reentered program mode and am at a loss what to do.
I am sure I am missing something simple and probably obvious but nonetheless I am missing it...
All zones have been programmed including alpha descriptors and I think I turned off the telephone monitoring when programming as I am not monitoring this
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rod

How familiar are you with the Vista 20P? You basically have to use the four digit code and then an action. The keys are labeled Away, Stay, Instant, Max.
You just enter your code followed by one of the actions and the system should set. I would advise you to program a "Master" code in the system. If you don't and then quick arm the panel you cannot shut it off with the insatller code. The installer code only disarms the system if it was set with the installer code. You can add a master code by entering the installer code followed by 8 then 02 and the a four digit code. You have to do this rather quickly. I hope this helps, do you have more than one keypad? If you do you cannot have them both addressed as 16. The second has to be addressed as 17 and turned on in programming in field 190 or 191.

Getting Closer
With yoru help I have my Vista 20P installed and programmed (sort of )
it has
6160V
1 wired MS
4 RF MS's
4 RF door transmitters
5828V keypad
5883h transceiver
I have programmed all motions as #21 all doors other than entry as #20 and entry doors as #01's
Problem I am still having is that when any of the doors open and the fault code appears on the keypad (6160V) the fault code remains and as a result I have to manually clear the codes before I can arm the system.
When i try to arm in the "AWAY" mode it all counts down to arm ok and then arms in the "STAY" mode. I assume because I didn't open an exit door during the count down to arming sequence. If I do open an exit door during this stage it continues to countdown but I now have a "fault code reported" and as soon as the system is armed it goes into "ALARM" and begins warning me to either leave or disarm the alarm. (Elk sound driver).
I assume I need to have the zones clear the report fault codes automatically so I can arm and disarm the system as normal. As a result of the system doing this I am unsure if the Motions sensors are working as it only arms in the stay mode. They do report a problem if I remove the covers so i assume they will work if I ever get it armed in the "AWAY" mode.
Any ideas and as well once this is done suggestions for the 5828v keypad

You have your devices programmed for the wrong zone types.
The entry door is right. Motions should be zone type 04 (interior follower), and the other doors should be type 03 (perimeter). You tried to program your zones with the settings used for a keyfob to arm the system.

I will redo the motions in the morning to the setting you advise. Will they still remain on bypass when I use the "STAY" button to arm?
Finally, the keypad displays a fault whenever a door etc.. is opened when the system is not armed. This fault i.e "Fault 09 Front Door " remains on displays and prevents me from arming the system unless I clear the codes.
Any recommendations to program the 5828V keypad as well, haven't tried as of yet but will try tomorrow.
Thanks

Yes, the door etc gets closed but the problem I am having is the report code displayed on the keypad does not cancel unless I manually clear it as a result I am unable to arm the system without clearing the keypad.
The door contacts etc. do work as once I clear the keypad, if I then open a door the keypad shows that I did in fact open the door.
As well if I arm the system and do not leave during the arming sequence, once I open the door the alarm is tripped as expected.
Any recommendations on how to set up the 5828V keypad as I was going to get everything operating properly on the 6160V first before I threw another wrench into the works.

Ademco/Honeywell's terminology sometimes throws people. They use the word "fault" where other brands use "open" to indicate an open zone. If your zones are "latching" open, it's because you have the wrong zone type programmed.
For the wireless keypad, just follow the installation instructions. Just realize that these wireless keypads do have a "lag" factor and do not react as quickly as a wired keypad (they really are better for supplemental use, as opposed to being a primary keypad).
It has a much more limited display vocabulary, so you have to make sure that your zone descriptors conform to the list on the 5828 instruction sheet.

Thanks, yes that is exactly what is happening, they are "latching open" on the display of the 6160V. I haven't setup or for that matter even put batteries in the 5828V keypad yet, will as soon as I get the gremlins out of the system which I am obviously the culprit of putting there in the first place.
I am going to reprogram the zone types now but do I need to do anything to have the keypad cancel the displays ie Front Door etc.
I do believe that the two exit doors are programmed as 01 but they latch open as well.

I have reconfigured the devices as advised, all Motions are interior/following (04) and doors other than entry doors are perimenter (03)
Still whenever a door is opened etc. regardless if it is armed or not the open door etc is displayed on the keypad (6160V) and remains there until I clear it. As a result I am unable to rearm the system until I clear the keypad of faults.
Finally, when I arm the system in "AWAY" it counts down as expected then finally arms itself in the "STAY" mode obviously bypassing all Motions. If I open and close an entry/exit door during the arming sequence immediately upon completing the arming countdown and arms the system immediately goes into a "tripped" state going through the countdown to sounding the siren etc...
As I am right now the system works in "STAY" mode provided the keypad was cleared first but I am unable to arm in the "AWAY" mode.
Ideas?

Check the loop number of the contacts. If you are using the internal reed switch of the wireless contact it has to be set as loop 2. If you are using an external door switch hooked to the wireless contact then it has to be loop 1. When you programmed the panel and went to enter the serial number you would have seen this, AXXX-XXXX:1 . Once you enter the serial number you would have seen A123-4567:1 you need to change the 1 at the end to a 2 on the wireless door contacts. This should fix your problem, as far as it arming in STAY mode you can fix that by changing field 84 in programming by putting a 0 there.

This make a lot of sense, when programming it initially, I was following the manual which showed as an example Loop 1 and when programming the first wireless device it initially showed Loop 2 but in my infinite wisdom changed them all to Loop 1. Will change them right away

On the money, changing the door contacts to Loop 2 fixed almost all of my woes, should I also change the wireless Motions to Loop 2 as well or leave them on Loop 1?
We also have an really big old 110v siren, an old shop siren which is god awful loud for my garage. I have wired it with a 24vac relay and ran the low voltage to the panel. It works well when I connect it to the 24vac on the panels terminals (1 &2) now if I hook it to the sirens output either on the Elk speaker driver or on the actual bus bar of the panel Terminals 3 & 4 will it work to close the relay?

No the motions are loop 1. The volatge on 1 & 2 is about 18 volts AC . The voltage on 3 & 4 is 12 volts DC in alarm. You can use this to trigger a relay but would have to use an external power supply to drive the bell.

For those following this thread, I did as advised by SamBIG Chief and the entire system is working perfectly.
Vista 20P with 6160V & 5828V keypads
5883H transceiver
4 Wireless door contacts
3 Wireless motions
1 Wired Motion
1 Elk Speaker Driver
1 12vdc relay connected to a very loud 110v external siren
This system works perfectly including the 5828V keypad which some thought may be questionable if it would work or not.
Thanks to SamBIG Chief and MrRONFl for the great advice

Glad to hear it Rod, I have been in the business for over 12 years and have seen and heard all kinds of stuff. In the future if you need any info just post here and I'll help if possible.
