Help installing a GE NX-8V2 w/ wireless receiver

OK, I am at my wits end. I have built extensions, installed heating systems, wired new electrical panels and my entire home and even programmed my own VCR but for some unknown reason, I cannot for the life of me program this dam thing.

I purchased (at a very discounted price) this alarm system complete with one NX-148E keypad, battery and siren. I purchased some NX-454's, NX-458's, two motions, glass break sensors etc.

Anyway, I wired everything up which was easyy enough. Now as I begin to program everything goes nuts. I do not know were to even begin! I was able to change the date and time and thats it. I DO NOT understand anything else.

Please point me in the right direct and tell me how to begin. I enter program mode and then what? What the heck is a partition? I know I have to set addresses for each sensor but how?

For the first time I have tackled something I just cannot seem to figure out and boy it is frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mark

After checking around I found Mr. Rons response to a similiar problem to mine.

"For programming the wireless:

Go to program *8 [installer code]
enter 32# to go to the wireless module programming
Just to clear the board, enter 910# to default the settings on the wireless module.
(at this point you are still in the wireless module)
To learn in a sensor (we'll use zone 1 as an example):
enter 0#
enter the zone number plus *: 1*
within 250 seconds trip the device as per the specific instructions for the type of device. You should get a "ding dong" from the keypad.

Lather, rinse and repeat for all of the other devices"

I go to #8 enter 9713
It immediately asks for an address. When I try to default out the wireless board I get the 910 in the right hand corner. It does not seem to default. What am I doing wrong? ( Yes, I have a red blinking light on the wireless board.)

Nope, you are doing it correctly. The display shows the last location entered until you enter another one.

Check the dip switches on your receiver. It may be set to a different address. You enter whatever address the receiver is set to, then you enter the 910# command. I used 32# as an example, because that's the address I most commonly use for the wireless board.

Thanks Ron,

My wireless Module is addressed to 36 but still cannot seem to get this thing to work.

After entering my code (9713) it asks for the address. I enter 36# it then asks for a location. I press 1# .I then get LOC 1 SEG1 along the top but only the number 2 shows up underneath. All the rest are dashes (-) When I key in number 1. I get 1,2 and all the rest dashes. I can do this up to 9. ( I can also remove them by pressing the corresponding numbers) After choosing the zone, I press # it brings me back to the begining and asks for a location.

When I save this and go back in I get LOC 1 Seg 1 1 (10) Any idea what this is?

Where ( or at what point)do I enter this next line??
"enter 0#
enter the zone number plus *: 1*"

Couple things you are missing...You have to tell the reciever what zone number it should start the wireless count at. Because you have hardwire on the system also, and I'm assuming these hardwire devices will start at zone 1. So you have to start your wireless on zone 9. You do this by the following sequences...
*8 9713
36#
194# (location)
1* (this tells the reciever to start at zone 9)

Now back up (# then Exit key)
Enter
0# (for the location)
9* (for the segment number...you have just told the reciever to turn it's "ears" on and learn in the wireless device you should NOW enroll)

Trip the device....(as in take the cover off, press the program button, press the panic, etc, etc. Depends on the device(s) you have.

Repeat procedure for next sensors except your next sensor would be..
0# (location)
10* (segment...sensor 10)

FYI..You can avoid having to go to 0# and the sensor number for each sensor by going to location 192 and turning on segment #2 (auto advance to next zone number). This will allow you to trip sensors one after the other after you do the first 0# (loc) 9* (seg)....

Not sure what version of the reciever you have (I'm assuming it's not the one with the reciever built into the keypad since you mentioned dip switches).

I actually do not have any hardwire devices on this system it is completely wireless!

Funny, Zones 1 through 8 show "FAULT" then I see Zones OKAY on all other Zones through 48.

Sorry, I should have stated that this system has no hardwired contacts or sensors. The "wiring" I was referring to is all in the metal enclosure.

Ahh, even easier then...You can just skip the location 194 part!

Your sequence would then be
*8 9713
36#
0#
1* (sensor 1)

You can put the resistors that come with the panel across the hardwire zones on the panel to get rid of the "open" zones.

OK I jumped the other zones and got the first sensor to work. Now when I try to go to the next it's not finding it. I keep getting three beeps ( error)
I enter:

*8
9713
36#
0#
2* ( Sensor 2) etc

What am I doing wrong?

Do you know how to move yourself around in programming? You need to use your # key as well as the "Exit" key in the right places (in addition to the * key) in order to navigate your way through....After you learn the first wireless sensor in, you have to hit # to back out and then re-enter
0# for the location then
2* for the segment
now trip the next wireless device....

You may want to go to location 193 and turn on 2 here (auto advance). This will eliminate the need to keep backing up after you learn in a sensor. If this is on, you can keep learning the sensors in one after the other.

I figured it out. I was entering 2* instead of 10 or 11 or 12 etc. Anyway. Thank you very much for helping me out. Once I realized what I was doing wrong, everything went very smoothly.

Two other questions, if you dont mind.

I would like the chime only to ring on an entry zone not motion. How do you disable chimes for individual zones?

Second, I have two Key chains. Can you explain (or point me to the right direction) on how to activate them?

Thanks again for all your help, I owe you........

Make the motion a zone type 5.

When you go to learn in the keyfobs, press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time

GEGUY, sorry, I do not understand. I currently have two motions. How do I make them a Zone type "5"?

*8 9713
0#
25#

Your keypad will now look something like this
35666666

Whatever sensor numbers the motions are, change the above numbers to a 5

(right now sensor one is a "3" and sensor two is a "5" etc, etc.)

I do not get anything like that. I did get a "3" which I proceeded to change to a 5 but no other numbers.

Any idea?

Hit the * key after you change sensor 1. This will advance it to segment 2, which is zone type for sensor 2.

First, Thank You GEGUY for your patience. I really do appreciate it.

Now, if I am reading this correctly; I would only use 25# if these wireless sensors reside in zones 1-8. My sensors begin in Zone 9 so I think I need to start in 27#. ( #27 should affect zones 9 - 16) Does this sound correct?

When I go into Zone 27 I only see two segments. Segement 1 is has a number 2 ( which I think means supervised) and segemnt 2 also has a 2. There are no other segements to view, it returns to "location" after segment 2.

What is odd is with all the playing around I have been doing, I wonder if I turned something off that I should not have. The Manual says ( as you also said) the LCD should read "Zone 27 6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6" which it does not and I cannot figure out why. Did I change something in the Master settings??

I think you are in the wireless module programming, and not the main panel programming (0#).

You install your wireless devices, then exit that module, and go to main panel programming to set the zone types and other settings. Once learned into the wireless interface, the transmitters are just like any other zone.

Talking

PLease disregard my last post.

Thats what it is, I started my zones at 9 which begins in Location 27, Segments 1-7 effect zones 9-16. I have now changed it.

The alarm is working well and I am waiting for a few glass break sensors as well as two more motions. I cannot believe the range on the recessed sensors. I have them on my workshop about 250' away and it works like a charm!

Anyway, thanks for all your help!

I feel semi-sane again!!!

RON you are right, thats what I was doing originally. I was in wireless module.

Thanks
