Ademco LYNXR-EN
I am currently considering a wireless system, I like the Ademco products. I want to get the LYNXR-EN control panel but am having a hard time understanding it's limitations on the number of sensors you can use. I printed up the user manual and installation guide and researched on the internet but I can't find the info.
I understand the different zones, but are there limitations to the number of sensors that you can put on a zone? My perimeter zone would have at least 10, (maybe more) window sensors, 4 motion sensors and 3 glass break sensors.

In a wireless system, each transmitter is, by definition, a zone. Thus the Lynxr-en supports 24 transmitters, and an additional 16 keyfob buttons (there are up to 4 buttons per keyfob, do the math...).

24 zones will not be enough, is there any way to expand the amount of sensors I can use, or is there another wireless controller that has more?

Great Idea on the 20P, I've spent most of the day reading about it. Great selection of keypads and 40 wireless zones and can expand. I need 34 zones.
Question about sensors on double hung windows:
The top half of the window slides down and the bottom half slides up. Can you mount a mangetic sensor in between the two halves? Put the sensor on the bottom half and the magnet on the top half so that if the window is opened in either direction it breaks the contact. Or is it common to put 2 sensors on these types of windows, one on the bottom half and one on the top?

I'm sure it can be done, but, can the top window be moved without moving the bottom one?
If it can, you could probably mount the wireless transmitter on one window, and the magnet on the other. It may not look asthetically pleasing, but it would work if there's room on the window to place it.

You can use a pair of regular hardwired contacts (one on each section of the window) and connect them to the external input loop on the transmitter, thus needing only 1 transmitter per double hung window.

The new windows I ordered are Pella triple panes, the 2 halves sit almost flush with each other, no way to put one sensor to cover both. I think I only need to cover the bottom window half on all the windows, half of these windows are on the second story, I doubt that an intruder would climb a ladder then pry open the top half of the window and climb off a ladder over the bottom half of the window, these windows also face a busy well lit street. The windows on the lower level have a 5' drop from the bottom of the window to the floor, again I wouldn't think anyone would want to add 2' to this distance to crawl over the bottom half. Plus the downstairs will be covered with motion sensors. Problem is if I protect both halves of all these windows 40 sensors is not enough. I could always go to the 128 but I think that's overkill.
What do you think?

I don't think you read what I wrote. You can use a single transmitter to protect both sections of the window by using hardwire style contacts connected to the hardwire loop input on the transmitter.
You are, however correct in that the upper half of a double hung isn't much of a target. If the window isn't locked, it is very unlikely that someone will try to get over that upper section when they can simply open the lower one.

Thanks for the replies, it's not that I didn't read what you said I just don't have a clue what you are talking about. I have not done any research on wired systems yet. I have 2 additions on my house that make it virtually impossible to run wires and keep them hid without tearing up dry wall or tile. That is the main reason I want to go wireless.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either of the following sensors, the 5800 Micra or the 5818MNL for use on the double hung windows or entry doors?

The wireless transmitters have a input connector that allows you to use a short length of wire to put the regular surface mount contacts on an opening. It's intended for locations where you have windows or doors whose shape or configuration doesn't allow the transmitter and it's integral switch to be used; or for location where you have 2 or 3 windows grouped together.
If your trim finish will not allow you any provision to keep the small wires out of sight to your satisfaction, then using one of the smaller transmitter models is your ideal option.

I have done many of these types of installations. I usually use a wide gap small short 3/8 inch switch. You mount the transmitter on the front face of the window where the two halves meet. Drill a 3/8 inch hole while the window is closed and locked through both halves of the window. Insert the magnet portion of the switch in the outside half of the window and insert the wired switch side on the half with the transmitter with the wire for the switch fed through the drilled hole. Mount the transmitter over the hole you just drilled and feed the wire through the transmitter wiring hole and hook it up to the transmitter. All the wiring is concealed and the contacts are also and both windows are protected.

Thanks for the double hung window sensor info, I will use it.
I spent 12 hours on a plane Wednesday, I read the entire 72 page installation guide and 50 page programming guide.
I'm getting conflicting info from my dealer on which receiver to purchase with the vista 20P in order to get the 40 wireless zones. Does anyone know the model number?
Thanks Again
Frank

Use the 6160RF or 6150RF keypad, which has a receiver built into the keypad. These will give you the number of zones the panel can handle. Same with the 5881H receiver. (The 5881M is 16 zones, and 5881L is 8 zones).
The 5820L wireless sensor might work for your windows. It's new, and the magnet is fairly small. The transmitter/sensor would mount on the top of the lower window, and the magnet on the mullion or frame of the upper window, right by the glass. I think the magnet is 3/8 inches wide, but I'd have to verify that. If not, I have some other ideas, that would save having to drill or put 2 hardwire contacts on a transmitter, and still just use one sensor per window.

Will the 6160RF give me the 40 wireless zones on the 20P? If it does it might be the way to go.
The 5820l won't work, the triple pane is thick the windows are literally flush with each other. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Actually I need 3 of the 5820l's for some transom window.
After researching a little more I think I can use the 5883 or 5881ENH with the 20P. Any preferences between these 2 receivers? Or is the 6160RF the way to go?
I had no idea how expensive the system would be, I'm over $3K already and am not finished yet. This much money I want to go with a reputable internet store. Which are the better stores on the net?
My list is:
Vista 20P or 128B
5883 or 5881 ENH receiver or 6160RF
Two 6270 and one 6160 keypad
3- 5820L
3 - 5853
3 - 5894PI
17 - 5800 Micra
7 - 5808LST
Again, Thanks for all the help, it has really been helpful.

The 6160RF will be the better deal, but it, the 5881ENH, and 5883H will all give you the maximum zones the panel which it is on can handle, so 48 zones on the Vista 20, less your hardwire zones. The 6160RF is a tranceiver as is the 5883H, whereas the 5881's are receivers only. Of course the transceiver portion is only used if you have 2 way keyfobs or wireless keypads.
Exactly how much clearance is there on the window when you lower it, the gap between the glass on the upper window, and the back edge of the lower window. Are they wood or vinyl?

Using the 6160RF will save me $100 on my 20P system, Thanks!!
The windows are wood, they are Pella Designer series triple pane double hung, the glass on the top half is about 1/16" from the wood on the bottom half.

Wow! That is a narrow gap! I've got a Pella store not far from my office. I'll try to go over there Monday and see if the have that window and can show me, and see what I can come up with.

I finally got to the Pella store to look at your windows. Sorry it took so long. I think you can probably use the 5814 ultra small transmitter on the top of the lower window and glue a small magnet in the channel on the edge of the upper window. I would use a silicone glue, we typically use goop marine sealant for something like this. It'll hold for years but it's removeable if you need to.
I'll get one and play with it, but I think it'll work perfectly. A little paint to match the wood stain, and you'll never see it.
The trick is to line up the magnet properly, as it won't be in a normal orientation. You have to avoid the null spot of the magnet.

Sorry for the late response, work has been crazy and I just got a chance to check back in.
Thank You for checking that out, I understand what you are saying. This evening the Pella rep is coming to my house to look at the windows I need to replace. I will run the idea by him and see what he says.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the Vista 128B and the 6160RF receiver/keypad, the 20P just doesn't have enough zones.
