Caddx Ranger 8600
I recently moved into my house and it has a Ranger 8600. Just as everyone else on here I dont know the code and the previous owners didnt know it either. So after reading the owners manual I found that by pressing the first digit of the master code you could turn on and off the door chime. So very quickly I found the first digit of the master code. 5 So then I started 5000, 5001, 5002, 5003, 5004.....until I got to 5038 and bam! system armed! Now I am excited, then the dog set off the motion sensor and then before I knew it and alarm horn was blaring. 5038 will not disarm the alarm. So I figure the system is smart enough to know someone was playing and armed itself?? and 5038 is not really a code. Any ideas how to disarm it? and then reset it? I disconnected the horn so I dont have to listen to it while I play with it........any help would be appreciated.

Look in your main panel on the board, there should be a label telling us what DSC model you have if it is one.
Here is the installer manual:
http://www.sdilink.com/GE%20Manuals/Ranger%208600%20Install.pdf
By default, your INSTALLER code is 9713, but you cannot arm the system with the installer code. You can try and retrieve the MASTER code with it.

try 2580 to disarm it or 9111 these are common duress codes. ONLY use these if the system is not monitored! The other solution would be to power the system down both battery and AC, and then power back up. This is 50/50 it may be programmed for power up in previous state. Good Luck and we know it is a Caddx 8600 Hot.

still trying
I have been unable to find something that is labelled DSC Model. Inside the main metal box is a circuit board and a sticker label wiring diagram that looks exactly like the one on p4 of the installer manual. Unfortunately the installer manual doesnt do you any good unless you know the main code.
I have tryed to power down the system and even let it sit for 24 hours, but it always comes back in previous state.
I have ryed the installer code and the few other codes that were given in this thread with no luck.
I should have left it alone, at one point all I wanted was for the door chime to work.....but I had to keep going!

Pay HOT no mind. There won't be a sticker that says DSC because it is a Caddx. Look on the circuit board and see if there is a slide switch. Some of the older versions had a switch you could slide to go into programming. I only know of one other code and that is 3737. If you ever get it disarmed you can turn the chime on by press one number at a time. The first digit of the master code is used to cut the chime on and off. You will have to press the pound key after the number if it wasn't the right number. You will know if you got the number right because the keypad will sound a long beep a few seconds after you pressed the number. You only have to press it, don't hold it in.

There is one ace in the hole. On the old Caddx Rangers, there are a pair of pins labeled "remote arm" If if you short the pins, the system should disarm.
Without the right keypad, it is _very_ difficult to extract the master code from one of these systems. That code you used could have been an duress code, or a code programmed as a "baby sitter" code (arm only).
Hot's manual is, in fact, the correct install manual. Give it a read over. You may find your time and money better spent upgrading the control and keypads with a current production system. Even alarm installation pros have trouble with the old Ranger panels.

THank you thank you thank you.....I couldnt find the remote arm and just about gave up...then looked at the diagram in the install manual and found it. Shorted them bad boys and disarmed it!!!!
And yes the code I just happen to hit was an arm only code...well I am at 5038. Only need to get to 5999, thats 961 more trys for the master.

Hmmm, I think this thing has the "quick arm" feature active. What's probably arming you is the 8.
What this tells you is that the first digit of the real master code is probably not an 8. Otherwise, the chime feature won't work because the system would try to arm when the chime is activated by keying the first digit of the master code.

HOT you were right on with the manual just off by saying it was a DSC. Try my method of turning the chime on. I have a programmer for these panels new in the box, but they are worth their weight in gold these days. You may be able to find one on Ebay. Just search for Caddx programmer, I'd have to look but I believe that they are an 8950.

Also, a 9050/9060 keypad that is still set to the factory default codes can be used to program a Ranger panel. It's not as easy to use as the programmer, but are easier to find.

I am done messing with this thing. At least I can turn the door chime on and off. I can arm the system and short it out when I want to disarm. Oh well. maybe later on I will get a new system installed.
Any recommendations on what system I should get and who should monitor it?
