DSC FSA-410 Smoke - RM2 required?

I have a DSC FSA-410 smoke detector, 4 wire. All the diagrams show an RM-2 relay module in the circuit. Is this module required, or can I just use the end of line resistor?
There is only 1 smoke detector in this installation.

Thanks to Mr. Ron for the previous answer.

It is strongly recommended, but not an absolute requirement. It is a safety precaution to alert you to the loss of 12v power to the device.

(DSC's specific relay isn't required, any 12v relay will work as long as the contacts open when power is removed. There are several brands of EOL relay).
