System Sensor 2WTA-B, need more info.

Just how do these detectors work? The installer says that there will be a separate panel for them, but if I have a two story house, how do the people upstairs turn them off?

Anyone ever use them before?

For specifics of the detectors themselves, go to www.systemsensor.com.

These are "system" smoke detectors. To work, they have to be connected to either a fire alarm control, or a compatible security system control. They are powered by the system power supply and backup battery, so there's no individual 9v batteries to mess with. This model has a thermal sensor and a built in sounder in each individual unit.
They are low voltage because the run on 12-24vdc.

And they are turned off from the security or fire alarm keypad (you can have more than one). They are designed to be wired, so that if a smoke detector goes into alarm, they all sound.

You say 2 story house. You don't mean a 2 story duplex do you, with one unit up and one down?
