DSC1555 - system light on / *2 = zone 1

Hello all,

I just found this site and hope someone can help. About a week ago my DSC1555 alarm started beeping with the system light on. I looked through my manual and found to try *2. When I do this I get the zone 1 light on. This points to backup power according to Ranger American FAQ. I tested the battery and got 13.68volts. So it seems the battery is ok. I tried disconnecting the battery and power but the system light is still on and now I get zone 1 and zone 8. I know zone 8 is supposed to be clock but I cant find the master code.

Can a battery be "bad" at 13.68volts? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

YES battery can be bad.

to check trouble you press STAR 2, see LED 1 is on, then press 1 again to see what the trouble is. it may not be battery- and other LED's will light when 1 is pressed.

See what happens there-

When I push *2 the 1 and 8 led light, if I push 1 again the 8 led goes out but the 1 stays lit. I think the 8 is lit because I power cycled the system and now the clock needs reset. Unfortunately, I don't know the master code. The installed left it blank in my manual....

did you try setting the time & date?? using the code that you have?? that may be the master code.

STAR 6 _ _ _ _ (code) 1, HH:MM time in hours, using 24 hour standard ( 1pm = 13, 2 am = 02 ) then minutes ( ie: 1422 = 2:44 PM )

then date month (2 digits) {MM DD YY} day of month, 2 digits & 2 digits for year ( ie: 031809 = march 18 2009 )

doing the trouble test as outlined, where the 8 goes out does define as a bad battery-
install a new one- buy it where ever- i recomend the 7 amp battery, most use the 4 amp- the upcharge is worth it for longer backup power.

DSC 1555 you need the installer code to fix this problem it is a simple fix really if your back up batt is showing 13.68 vdc check the charging leads as well they should be 13.25 to 13.80 vdc if both those are good then you need to reset modules in programing hit ( * 8 5555) that should get you in if the install company did not change factory default if the system grants the access you should see the red lock turn on and a hand over a keypad icon in the display screen this means you in installer programing mode hit ( 902 wait 1 minute then hit #)
go to location ( 903 ) hit the * key then hit the # # 2 times to exit programing go back in to programing ( * 8 5555 ) go to location ( 007 ) this is where you change the master code hit you new 4 digit code then hit ## 2 times to exit programing.
be very Cautious when in programing if you make a mistake it could requier a service tech to fix any time you unsure of any key strokes hit the # key a few times to exit and restart.

13.68volt seem okay.

Is the battery for the 1555 supposed to be 12v or 16 ?

It's a 12v battery, and the true test of the battery condition is to disconnect the ac power. If the battery drops below 12v under load, then the battery is failing.

The 13.68 is very easily the output of the battery charging circuit.

Get a manual; websearch using the phrase "DSC PC 1555 installer manual".

DSC manuals are not the most readable in the world, but all of the information, especially the keypad commands are in it.
