Constant line seizure with Simon 3

My new Simon 3 is working perfectly--until I plug it into the RJ31X jack.

Then, it seizes the line whether there's an alarm or not. I can't call out--no dial tone. People trying to call in hear Simon. It calls my cell phone constantly.

I thought it could be a programming mistake, so I deleted every option with a phone number. It doesn't call my cell, but it still seizes the line.

Any ideas on what to try? Please?

Thank you, I hope!

Could you have possibly miswired the RJ-31x? A ring to tip short will hold the phone line "off hook".

It came wired and I just had to attach to the home lines. But I wondered that, too, so I dumped the first RJ31x jack and installed another prewired one. Same problem.

Is there a way to check for a ring to tip short?

Most likely, if there is a miswire, it is at the point where the alarm phone wiring connects to your house wiring. I'm not too sure that's the issue, because your phones work normally with the alarm unplugged.

The fact that it only goes off hook when you plug the cable in tells me that _something_ isn't connected or configured correctly.

A tip ring short is when there is a short between the two wires of the telephone wiring. That's easily checked for by using a meter to look for low resistance between the pairs.

Frankly, without knowing exactly what you have done, or tried to do, it's kind of a guessing game.
