Question DSC PC1555 / LCD5501Z32-433 System Died

My alarm system stopped working. I've started troubleshooting and noticed the PC1555 AUX+/AUX- voltage is only a few mVDC when the keypad is connected and 13VDC when the keypad is disconnected. I checked the resistance across these terminals on the keypad and it is practically a short. Is this typically how a keypad fails?

disconnect the wires from the panel that go to the keypad.

is there only 1 ??

then get a short piece of 4 cond wire & connect it standing in front of the box- see if it works then.... if so, there is a short in the wire going to the keypad from the panel somewhere.

Thanks LOCKtec for your reply. I left out a detail in my description - I disconnected all of the wires from the keypad and am checking the resistance across the terminals of the keypad. This is where I'm seeing the short.

Smile

Make sure that your meter is set on 20K (20000 ohms) or higher when doing the reading across the terminals on the keypad. If still shorted then its time to replace the keypad.

I'm only getting <1ohms across the AUX terminals of the keypad. Already got my eye on a RFK5501 on eBay.
