Dialing into DCS 5010 using DLS IV software

Hello,
I got the software DLSIV.exe from alarmrelay.com. I have the master code for the panel. Is there any specific procedure that I have to follow when dialing into the panel ?

Thanks

1st- you have to have a DSC modem ( or 1 that will work )

2nd- you need the DOWNLOADING ACCESS code, ior program one in the panel ( section 403, 4 digit code )

3rd- have it call the number thats connected to the panel, hang up after 1 ring, call back - and it should connect.

a few other items need to be turned on, best to look at the manual and set everything 1st, then connect & make any other changes.

Thanks Locktec.

1. Where can i find a list of compatible modems ? I have a us robotics modem - will that work?

Can I directly connect to 5010 panel? I don't see a port to plug in a null modem cable there ?

2. Is the downloading access code is same as the master code for the panel?

3. Go it

Where can I download a programming manual for 5010 ?

Thanks!

chances are the modem will NOT work

DSC has their own- MD12 modem. i for years have tried all mfg. of modems and could not get any to work. get the correct one.

YES- you can connect- there is a series of 4 pins on the board - this is where you connect the PC-link cable that is also made by DSC- it uses a 9 pin serial connector on the computer end. - i use a 9 pin to USB adapter for this- in an earlier post someone was asking which adapter to use- iam not sure about mine- got 2 from e-bay, and both worked- 2 different brands- from china

NO- master code & D/L code are not the same- unless thats what they programmed- they are 2 dif codes in programming, but can be the same

goto DSC site, they may have it there- it may be on this site too

iam sure RON will add to this- he knows where they are located

look at old post on here to see if its said where

Click on his name link and select "send a private message".

Yes, the _installer code_ and the _master code_ are two different things. For what you want to do you need the installer code.

If you really want to try to program this thing with the software, you want to go with the PC link cable.

The default installer, download, and panel ID are all 5010 on one of these. If the panel has never been downloaded by the software these will generally be left at the default.

I assume that you already have the installer manual and programming workbook. Most of the questions you are asking are explained in section 5.8 of the manual.

Use the following phrases in your favorite websearch engine:

"DSC PC 5010 installer manual"
"DSC PC 5010 programming manual"

You should find the manuals in the first dozen or so hits.

You need both books, the installer manual makes no sense without referring to the programming worksheets.

MrRonFL:

I had to install and use DLS 2002 inorder to access my PSC 5010. The DLS IV do not have an option for 5010. I have uploaded the information from the 5010 and printed it to a pdf file. see the link

www.ausmovers.com/psc5010.pdf

[I will change the access codes once my issues are resolved]

I have a 5010, an 8 port expansion 5108, 2 keypads (one with 2 line display). I used to have an escort module that was taken out. I think the programming still thinks that the escort module is still there. My zones 8 thru 16 shows as disabled.

How can I enable 8 thru 16 and then clean up the escort module so that it won't show as failure.

Currently the upload shows [Communication Aborted The module is not responding, it is likely that the module has not been enrolled on the system LCD 5500 Z VERSION 3.1 / 3.2]

Thanks

Go into the system using the keypad and the installer code and run the supervision routine:

*8 [installer code] 902 (this forces the system to rescan enrolled modules)
Press # until you are out of programming.

You give the zones zone types (appropriate for what you want them to do) in programming locations 001 and 002, and you make sure they are active in partition 1 in programming locations 202 and 203.

As you may have noticed, even with the software, you still need to read the manual to understand the terminology.

MrRonFL,
I am working with two manuals -
1. DSC Power 832 PC5010 Ver 2.0 DLS-3 version 1.3 or later
2. Programming worksheets PC 5010 ver 2.0

I tried doing the *8 [installer code] , it asks for section and i punch in 902
and it keeps asking for section.

Then I read the installer manual section 2.8 it says, do 902, wait for a minute or so then do 903.

System found Keypad 01, Keypad 08, zones 9-12 and zones 13-16.

I did an upload again and it shows me - Communicatin aborted "LCD5500[Z]/Version 3.1-3.2 module is not responding. It is likely that this module has not been enrolled on the system"

I clicked on download to see current errors and it shows:
-Installers code - factory default
-DLS access code factory default
-Download answer enabled - number of rings set to zero
zone 8 thru 16 - definition has been programmed but it is not assigned to any partitions

How do I fix the communication aborted error

Thanks

Turn off the dialer. The system defaults to the dialer being active. Check your keypad addresses. Both keypads should have individual addresses.

MrRonFL,
Thank you for your patience

I have two keypads [DSC Power Series 433] in the house. The one in 2nd floor master bedroom is 2 line display where i do the programming to download. I opened it up and it has one wire in each of the R B Y G and nothing on Z

The keypad at the exit door in 1st floor has R B Y G P1 Z/P2.
P1 don't have any wire. B has two wires and one each on R Y G and Z/P2
This keypad has the contact sensor of the backdoor connected to it. And I don't think that contact is programmed right, because after arming, I can open the door and it don't sense/trigger alarm

Can you pls guide me on how to Turn off the dialer and how to check the current keypad address and how to change it if needed.

Thanks!

Hang on...
Are _both_ of your keypads wireless receiver models? Without adding a special module, (PC-5320) two wireless modules cannot coexist on the same system.

In the sticky titled "Alarm Forum FAQ (Please read before posting)" the locations that you need to change to turn off the dialer are specified.

Now that you have used the software to get the installer code, put down the DLS software and read the section of the manual titled "How to program". That is where the information on how to view the current settings via the keypad are.

Most of what you need to do is honestly easier to do via the keypad interface than with the software.

For a zone wired to the keypad you have to know the keypad address.

I don't think my keypads are wireless receiver models.
When I moved into the house - the system was already there. It had PC 5010, PC5108 and Escort 5580TC. I removed the escort module and then purchased a pc 5010 and replaced the pc 5010 i had since I did not know the installer code. I got the 8 zones to work then and it has been working for a year [except for the exit door on first floor where it has the door contacts wired to the keypad].

I am trying now to get the zones 9 thru 16 to work.

Did you want me to read the DLS Software or read the PC 5010 installer manual on 'How to Program' ?

Is keypad address retrievable by punching in program codes on the keypad itself ?

Thanks again!

Hookay. The details of the backstory to start with (along with an accurate account of the hardware) would have been helpful 12 or so posts ago.

In synopsis:
You had an existing PC 5010 system. (Yes I went back and checked your long ago posts)

You could not access the existing system because you could not default the panel.

You replaced the motherboard and removed the escort module.

So you were starting with a new, unconfigured system. You could not figure out how to program a keypad zone.

As far as I can tell, then you don't have a wireless receiver (when you put the 433 part number on a keypad, it indicates a 433mhz wireless receiver).

Okay then. Here's my suggestion. Put away the download software, for now. It's really not going to help you at this point. Until you understand the programming structure, the software is not helpful.

List out all of your zones as you wish them to be.

Read the manual section how to program so that you understand the programming interface.

Use the keypad commands to default both the keypads and the control and start over.

What was creating unnecessary confusion is the fact that the keypads have an independent programming that needs to be cleared when you started over with a new system motherboard.

When you are done with the manual, if you have specific interpretation questions we can help you.
