Ademco vista10SE
Hi everyone, i've read most of your threads on how to reset the ademco vista 10Se. I have followed all the procedures like disconnecting power, holding *#, getting the installer code, putting in a new master code, etc. the only problem im having is the alarm goes off about 1 minute after ive reset everything and the new code wont turn it off. i would really appreciate any help, thanks.

I disconnected the batt., then the 9v adapter, gave it a minute, then while my wife held the *#, i connected the power, the 20 showed on the display and i put in #20, it gave me the installer code. I put *99, got out and put in the installer # +8+2+my new master code. In about 45 seconds after the alarm goes off and it doesnt let me do anything else, i have to disconnect the power again.

You are very close. Type [installer code] 802 [new master code]. This must be done at a steady pace with no pauses. It will beep if accepted. Example: if the installer code is 4112 and you want a master code of 1234, then type 41128021234.

It still goes into alarm, with code 06, no ac on it, but everything is plugged in. confusing? it sounds like it picks up the new master code, but when alarm goes off new code doesnt disarm it.

How are you disarming? to disarm, type [master code] OFF. the OFF button is 1. for example, if the master code is 1234, type 12341. I am not sure what you mean by "code 06" unless this is zone 6. But you should not have any alarms going off after getting out of programming. The only thing that can set the alarm off without arming is if there are 24 hour zones programmed which are not connected. But even then, the master code should quiet the alarm.

Now after i get out of programming, there is d1 on the display, not ready also on. Man, i have been working on this for about 5 hours and every minute it get more confusing.

d1 is normal, and not ready is normal, but going into alarm without arming is not normal, unless there is something in the zone programming causing this. d1 will last about a minute or so. If it goes into alarm after that, there is a zone programmed which is inconsistant with what you have wired. Can you program the zones? If you can, I'd suggest that the panel be defaulted and re-programmed. If you can't then you are going to need professional help.

Installer manual:

For a Vista 10se the correct sequence is [installer code] + 8 + 2 + [new master code].
Could you have entered *97 while you were in programming? That would have reset the zones to factory defaults, which, for zone 6, is a 24 hour audible panic zone.

I might have tried *97 once, but didnt think it worked. That sounds like the problem. I'll try that and then let you know. So, all i have to do is reprogram the zones, is that difficult from the keypad?

If you already entered *97 while in programming, then it's too late. There is no indication, no warning, it just defaults the alarm control.
Unless you have a 2-line alpha keypad (that displays zone _names_ instead of just 2-digit numbers) you cannot access the menus to correct your zone programming.
You need a 6139 or 6160 keypad to fix this.

You could reprogram carefully with standard touchpad. But if u defaulted it then zone 06 is 24hr panic. Once u get in program mode, hit *56. kp should say 01. That's zone 01 so type in 06 and hit "**". should read 07 on screen if it's a 24hr audible panic. Either way that number is the zone type for That zone. Just type in the zone type you want to use (03 for window, 01 for entry exit door, 10 for motion with delay). Then hit * till the next zone comes up which should be 07. Hit 00to exit zone programming then *99 to exit programming.

Yes, one _can_ make zone changes with a fixed alpha keypad: _If_ you are very familier with the Vista programming sequence, and _if_ you keep very careful track of where you should be in the sequence.
Just realize that it's very easy to get off track with no visual indication of what you did wrong....

You are absolutely correct mrron. You can get lost if you aren't familiar with the programming. The ideal thing to do is to get alpha touchpad and is highly suggested if a lot of programming is necessary.

You don't need a new one; a cheap used one will work just fine, or if you know anyone with an ademco alarm that will trust you with a keypad for an afternoon (just remember to power down before breaking or making any connections).
