DSC PC2550 Low Battery Trouble

Hi all,

Sorry if I didn't do a thorough enough search to find the answer to my problem. So if you're willing to entertain my question, here goes.

I just recently bought a new house that has a DSC PC2550. The panels have the yellow 'trouble' LED lit. I press *2 and the #1 red LED lights along with the yellow 'trouble' LED flashing. According to the manual, this is a battery failure however my battery reads 12.6 volts when disconnected and 13 and change when it is connected. This tells me the battery is good and is being charged by the system. I've also checked the battery fuse inside the control box and it's good as well. I've tried the unplug the transformer, then the battery, the reconnect the battery and then the transformer trick with no luck. I've also 'defaulted' my system (thank goodness my monitoring company could dial in and reprogram it for me) and nothing seems to clear the trouble LED. What do I do next besides ignore it?

Thanks!

You need to test the battery with a load on it. That means disconnect the ac from the panel and have only the battery connected to it. Then test the voltage across the aux+ and aux-. Should be above 12.5 volts dc. More than likely the panel is telling the truth and you need to replace the battery. Normal battery life on these panels is 5-7 years.

I looked for the "slaps forehead" emoticon but couldn't find it. I should have known to check the battery under load. Thanks Fishlips25! I did so and the battery only reads about 7.75 volts. Yup, dead. I'll order a new one. Thanks again for the reality check!

I replaced the battery, unplugged the AC supply so the system could run on the new battery, the system recognized that the new battery was good so it cleared the trouble LED. I plugged the AC back in and now all is well. Thanks so much for the help! Merry Christmas, all!
