importance of X10 capaiblites in DIY Home security system

We are looking to purchase a DIY home security system. When I read the review I see some complaints that certain system are not X10. I didnt know what X10 was and after googling it, I think it means the ability to control lights and appliance remotely

How important is X10 capabilities in a home security system?

I specifically found a lot of folks complaining aobut the - GE SIMON XT WIRELESS Security System not working with X10, but other folks say that X10 is not really necessary

I want to understand this before we purchase a system.
* I do not to pay a monthly monitoring fee.
* I do not want to rely on a landline or internet.
* I want it call my cell phone and my husband's cell phone (or text)
* I guess it will need to work thru a cell phone so I suppose there is a montly charge for the cell phone

So do I need a DIY phone system with X10 capabilties?
Thanks
Lolly Ollie

Ok, X-10 is one of those "nice to have" features that is largely being supplainted by "Z-Wave". It's not necessary unless that type of home automation is important to your lifestyle.

Cellular communication generally has to work through a monitoring service. There's not really any solutions that can simply dial a mobile phone that don't involve landlines.

There _are_ solutions that use the monitoring service to send info to smartphones, SMS, etc.

I know; everyone wants to "cut the cord" and everyone wants not to pay for a service, but that's not what the alarm systems are really designed for.
