Magnum Alert MA1000E strange codes and buzzer won't turn off

I am hoping the folks here can help me out.

I have a Magnum Alert MA1000E panel and lately and inconsistently after disarming the system the number 2 shows up on the screen and all the led's on the keypad start flashing. After pushing few more buttons the letter "P" shows up on the screen. When this occurs there is nothing you can do to shut off the keypad buzzer except to unplug the battery and disconnect the power source.

I also noticed that when I unplug the battery there is nothing on the keypad indicating a problem, which I think is suppose to happen (not sure).

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?

TIA,
BWSwede

That's likely a fairly old system (15-20 years at it's newest). This is probably your warning sign to start budgeting for a replacement. The second law of thermodynamics applies to alarm hardware, too.

You can double check the condition of the wires from the keypad to the main board, but it sounds like hardware failure to me...

MrRonFL,

Your advice is noted and will be followed.

Does anyone have suggestions for a solid basic wired system. Is Napco still a good company with good products?

Thanks again,
BWSwede

Napco still makes perfectly serviceable equipment. They are not the best choice for a DIY, but if you are used to their configuration and programming, they work just fine.
