Smoke detector won't stop chirping

Hoping this is the correct place to ask this?

I replaced the battery in our upstairs smoke detector about 2 months ago because it started chirping. It was fine for about a month, then started doing the low battery chirp again. The 9-volt I had put in it had been sitting for awhile, so I thought maybe it was bad, and I bought a brand new battery to put in there.

Problem is the damn thing is STILL chirping. In fact it chirps even when you remove the battery, With the battery in it tests fine, but chirps every minute. I tried a fix I saw online of removing the battery and holding down the test button, but no go. Do I just need to replace the smoke detector?

Just replace it. Not sure how old it is but it's suggest to change them every 5 years anyway.

Try pulling the battery out and pressing the test button for a few seconds.

Agree with Joecaption. The smoke detectors are only considered good for as long as the warranty period is good (3,5,10 years). They might still work after the warranty but not reliably.
