Wireless doorbell: recommendations needed
Hey guys!
I’ve set myself a budget of $200 for my first wireless doorbell and am still not sure which one to get.
*
I’ve been reading some reviews on this site (Best Wireless Doorbell with Camera) and am considering the Skybell HD Silver WIFI Video Doorbell
or the Ring Video Doorbell Pro
Does anyone here actually own either of these? What are your experiences?
Thank you so much for the help in advance
Shawn

Have installed a handful of the Skybells [through Alarm.com accts] and they do seem to be decent. The wifi range on them is good, picture quality is good, not very attractive [IMHO], works best if the location is right next to the door [because if too far off to the side or, in a corner, you will need to mount it on a wedge to get a good angle].
If you have an electronic doorbell, you will need an adaptor to make it work.
That being said, it's not my 'cup of tea' and I would not want one.
No experience with Ring.

I installed one in my home and I've been installing the Ring doorbell since early in the year. Probably about 15 of them. I make use of it and all of my clients love the device. I've experimented with one Skybell and the picture is not as good as the Ring.
If you don't have a powered doorbell now, you will have to recharge the unit at least once a year maybe more often if you have activated the motion detection feature. Keep in mind that if you don't power the Ring from an external power source you will not be able to sign in and randomly view the camera.
In a couple of installations I ran a wire to the Ring from a 12 VAC plug in transformer to charge the battery and to be able to access the remote view feature.
Feedback from other installers is that the other video doorbells are not as good/capable as the Ring but as usual, I imagine in time someone will come out with a better, less expensive device.

I know on the early Ring units the WiFi range is poor. There is supposed to be a newer model out that addresses that.
I have one customer that had five of them. The three that were on the opposite side of the house from the router were extremely intermittent.
I wouldn't consider one of these units without dedicated power.
I'm still installing the wired doorbell/camera units.
