How would I know if my vehicle is being tracked by a GPS device?

How would I know if my vehicle is being tracked by a GPS device?

I have reason to suspect, due to an ongoing divorce situation, that our vehicle is being tracked. How would we know for certain?

First would be a physical inspection, looking in the wheel wells, under the hood and inside engine compartment, in the trunk, under the dashboard, and the complete undercarriage. But you have to be able to recognize when something out of the ordinary is present.

The other, more reliable way, is with an RF detector. But they tend to be in the couple hundred dollar+ range.

We don't believe they have access to the inside of the vehicle including under the hood or the trunk but will look there just in case. I've looked underneath the best I could in the driveway but honestly, I'm not sure what to look for.

Also, is it reasonable to believe that unless a device of this sort is hard-wired, then the battery within would quickly discharge? With a typical Garmin, they don't last very long when charged.

It would not be a "Garmin" type device. That is a GPS receiver.

It could possibly be a plain black box with magnets.
If someone is smart enough to use a tracking device..... they would probably be smart enough to get in the vehicle.

How do you know your spouse didn't have and give the keys to someone ?

I left this link so you could see what is available.

I suppose it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that he could get keys. We'll continue to look around, knowing better what we're looking for.

Maybe the tracking is being done through your cell phone.

Cell phone tracking wouldn't be feasible...she did not have a smart phone when with him.

Look at the diagram as to where one of those devices might be installed. You can download the installation guide. In case they need constant power, disconnect & reconnect your battery.
