Interlogix nx-12 (hills reliance nx12) zones, areas and code pads
Hi,
I Have a NX-12. I have 8 zones and 2 code pads. I want Code pad 1 to be the master and be able to arm all zones in all areas, Code pad 2 is in area 2 and and must only arm/disarm zones in its area.
this is how I have configured the zones, areas and the code pad:
zone 1-4 are in area 1
zone 5-8 are in area 2 and area 1
Code pad 1 has starting zone of 1 with area 1
Code pad 2 has starting zone of 5 with area 2
Question: I want code pad 1 to arm all zones in area 1 + 2. I want to arm only zones in area 2 from code pad 2.
the installation manual says, "..... If a burglary zone resides in more than one area, it will only be active when all areas it resides in are armed......."
The above seems to imply that I can't active only area 2 from code pad 2?
Can someone please help clarify.

I'm going to guess that you are in Australia or New Zealand, based on the brand you are citing.
The is a variation on the North American Networx panels, so some stuff will vary from what most of us are familiar with.
Installer Manual: http://cdn.myld.com.au/2/289/msafe_0fa74ee7f9.pdf
The description of how partitioned zones work is somewhat clumsy and confusing.
The way you are supposed to handle partitioning has more to do with how the user codes and keypads are configured.
The keypad partition/area assignments primarily tell you what zones can be _displayed_. To make the system work the way you want, you have to set keypad 1 as a master, that can see all partitions, and keypad 2 as partition/area 2 only. Assign zones 1-4 _only_ to area 1; and zones 5-8 _only_ to area 2. With a user code that is assigned to both areas (such as the master code) you can arm both areas from keypad 1. Keypad 2 can only arm area 2, unless you switch it to master mode, temporarily.
This works best with LCD model keypads.

Thanks MrRonFL. Yes I am in Perth Western Australia. I have set up the zones exactly as described by you but I think the master code suggestion will do the trick. The system is in our church so I am not able to try it out immediately, but as soon as I do I will let you know the results. Thanks again for your assistance.

MrRonFL, I have set up the system as you have suggested and following the installation manual - see your suggestion below:
'...... you have to set keypad 1 as a master, that can see all partitions, and keypad 2 as partition/area 2 only. Assign zones 1-4 _only_ to area 1; and zones 5-8 _only_ to area 2. With a user code that is assigned to both areas (such as the master code) you can arm both areas from keypad 1. Keypad 2 can only arm area 2, unless you switch it to master mode, temporarily ......'.
The way it is working using the master code (which has been assigned both areas) is that Keypad 1 only arms area 1 and Keypad 2 only area 2. I cannot arm both areas from the one keypad using the master code.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

When you set up the keypad, did you set it up as a _master_ or did you just assign it to partition 1?
Assuming that you have NX-148e keypads, look at page 19 of the keypad manual: http://www.discounthomeautomation.co...stallation.pdf

I have set it up as Area 1. I cannot find in the instructions where it can be set up as a master. See extract from instruction manual:
Setting The LED Code Pad Options - Function [9] [3]
Step 1 Your system must be in the disarmed state to program the code pad settings
Step 2 Press the[*]-[9]-[3] keys
Step 3 Enter the [Program Code]. The ‘Service’ LED will flash
LEDs 1-8 can now be toggled on/off to enable/disable the functions listed in the table below:
LED Code Pad Option Enabled
1 Enable Code Pad tamper switch
2 Enable Silent Code Pad option
3 Enable Ding Dong sound for Chime – If off, chime will be a single tone.
4 Enable Key-press Silence option (silences the pulsing code pad sounder for 5
seconds when a key is pressed)
5 Enable Armed Status Suppression (faulted or bypassed zones will not display
on code pad when system armed)
6 Enable Panic, Fire, Medical Beep-tone (will sound a short beep to verify that the
key-press was accepted)
7 Suppresses the ‘Service’ LED (will not allow the ‘Service’ LED to illuminate for
any reason. If there is a system trouble, pressing[*]-[2] will still show the service
menu.)
8 Enable multi-area viewing (enables temporary viewing of all areas by pressing[*]-[1]-[Area Number])
Step 4 After enabling/disabling the desired functions press[*] to save changes and exit this function.
Setting The LED Code Pad Number And Area Options - Function [9] [4]
Step 1 Your system must be in the disarmed state to program the code pad settings
Step 2 Press the[*]-[9]-[4] key
Step 3 Enter the [Program Code] – The ‘Service’ LED will flash
Step 4 Enter the code pad number [1-8]
Step 5 Press[*] - The ‘Instant’ LED will illuminate steady and the ‘Service’ LED will remain flashing
Step 6 Enter the [Area Number] for the code pad (the code pad will automatically exit this mode at this time)

Sorry I should add that I am not using a NX-149e keypad it looks like an older model definitely. I am not sure what the model is but it does not give an option to enter the pad as a master code. I guess I will need to get an LCD keypad?
I will follow the instructions as per NX-149e and see what happens. I will get back to you after that.
Thanks you for your assistance in this matter. You have been very helpful.

First, you appear to have an LED model keypad (which isn't as easy to do this with). Second, you are getting stuck on terminology. For your non-north American model; Partition=Area
LED keypads can't be set in master mode, so all you can do is turn on the multi-area feature by turning on option 8 in function 93.

Thanks for your great assistance in this matter MrRonFL, you are a tremendous source of information. In function 93 I turned on 'multi-area viewing' and it has done the trick. Sorry about the terminology confusion.

It's a common confusion. Here, people often get confused by the difference between "zone" and "partition"...English can be an imprecise language, especially when tech writers get involved...
