What type should I get?

Hi everyone. I've been trying to figure this one out for a while and can't get it figured out. I only use a security camera when I have pet sitters staying at the house. I do not like to record inside the house because I do not want to infringe on their privacy but I do want to know when they come and go. In the past I've used those trail/hunting cameras that run on batteries but they have proven to be unreliable when it comes to catching the motion of cars coming up and down the drive. So, I guess I need something different. Here is what I need:
- To have it record images/videos on an sd card.
- Get triggered by motion and be able to work at night
- Date and time stamp.
- Doesn't have to be the best picture.

If this isn't possible, then maybe I have to get a house security system but I do not want to pay a lot for it. Suggestions?

You might be a good fit for one of the more basic IP camera units. They can be set to only trigger when they detect motion. PC magazine just did a pretty good overview of consumer models:

Websearch using the phrase: "The Best Home Security Cameras of 2017 | PCMag.com"

Magazines tend to move their pages around.

Some of the models reviewed are weather resistant.
