GE Concord 4 Siren Not Sounding

Hi - I'm new to the forum and have a problem with my GE Concord 4 alarm system. Up until a few weeks ago, the siren would sound without any problem if we tripped the alarm by mistake - by opening an external door other than those wired up to allow entrance, if you see what I mean (sorry). That was the only time the siren would sound.

A week ago, my wife went downstairs in the morning and opened our French doors. The siren would usually sound at this point, but nothing happened. I tested it a few times since and same thing - no siren.

I checked the wiring to the siren in the crawlspace and it seems fine. I've also not (to my knowledge) programmed anything via the keypad - we use the standard stay/ away type commands when we are at home/ leave the property.

Does anyone know a way that the siren may have been accidentally disarmed? Or if I can test it in some way via the keypad? Or if this is a common problem?

My security company quoted us $200 just to come out and look at it so hoping to find a solution via the forum - thanks in advance!

Programming doesn't generally change spontaneously.

If you use the audible panic/siren test feature, does the siren work?

Does the zone show open when the door/window is opened? If so, then the possibility exists that the siren itself simply failed (entropy happens). Is your siren a speaker, or is it a 12v siren?

Hi - thanks for reply. I have an update on this - I bought a replacement outdoor siren and replaced the original in our crawl space. I then tested the audible panic/ siren feature (police, fire etc) and the outdoor siren is working. But - we always had an indoor siren also, which was ear-splittingly loud whenever we tripped the alarm by accident. This siren is not sounding, and I have no idea where it was located.

I called Protection 1 and they were unable to tell me where the indoor siren was located. They mentioned something about the keypad or the control box but I really don't think this is where the noise was coming from. Does anybody have any idea where a likely indoor siren would be located?

The only possible location I thought might be the siren is the smoke detector which is part of the monitored system, located on the ceiling of our upstairs hallway, which could double as an indoor siren for other non-smoke related alarms? This has a flashing red light currently. I opened it to check whether there was a battery failure (like with a conventional smoke alarm) but there is no battery - its an AC alarm.

Would the ear-splitting indoor siren be this smoke alarm? Seems unlikely to me.

Any help would be appreciated!

Some of the indoor sirens are fairly low profile and can be painted to match the wall they are on. Some models look like an innocuous single gang wall plate; but most are about the size of a small door bell sounder box. If you had one in the crawlspace, the other could, possibly, have been placed in the attic, using the ceiling as a sounding board.

Your smoke alarm is not part of the intrusion alarm system, and can't be used that way.
