House has ADT but don't know the codes

I recently bought a home with an ADT alarm system. It's a Safewatch Pro 3000EN. I have a manual for it, which has the zones written on it, as well as something that says "Duress 2580+1" -- our only clue to a possible code? Though we tried using 2580 as a code and it doesn't seem to work.

Nobody provided me with any other codes or information. The system has been powered down since we moved in, but we'd like to power it up in order to get the connected smoke and heat detectors working. We would like to disable all alarms and chimes, however, and we aren't planning to sign up for monitoring.

What are our options if we don't know the code? Can we somehow reset it? Or replace the panel?

This is the same as a Honeywell Vista 20p system basically. Search google.com for installation, user, and programming manuals by first using the search term pdf. Like...

pdf vista 20 programming

pdf vista 20 installation

Etc.

Then read these manuals cover to cover.

2580 was commonly used as a "panic/forced disarm" that would send a silent alarm to the central station when used. Since it's the 4 numbers down the center of the keypad, it's turned out to be a big false alarm source, and has been deleted from a lot of installations.

To reset the master user code, you need to know the installation code. You can websearch using the phrase "ADT default installation code" and it's posted in many locations (we aren't allowed to post it in this forum because ADT protests).

The other option is to retrieve it from system programming.

That said (http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...posting.html):

Retrieving Installer code
Nearly all Ademco family (this includes First Alert, Security Link, and several ADT models) panels can retrieve the Installer code by disconnecting the battery, then the AC power. Wait a minute, then reconnect power in the opposite order. Within 50 seconds, on any keypad press * + # at the same time. Unless the system has had an installer lockout feature activated, the panel should go into program mode. The details by system will vary, but the programming section number that shows on the display will be the location for the installer code (on _most_ panels this will be 20). Key in # and the location number, and the panel will read back the installer code one digit at a time. Exit program mode using *99.
Once you have the installer code, enter the following:

[installer code] + 8 + 02 + [new master code]
You have to do this in a smooth entry without much hesitation between digits, or the new code will not take. Test the new code by turning the chime on and off.
