can I get the alarm to call my phone rather than central station?

Thanks to people here, I am moving to a do it yourself to monitor my alarm system, going from $35 a month to, what? $8 / month!?

But I'm playing with the system (DMP XR20) till I move to the new monitoring company.

I entered my cell number in the first phone number. It calls my phone and there's silence at the other end. I was envisioning something like a fax / modem handshake to try to send data to me.

I get that silence and now it's calling my cell several times as it attempts to redial to successfully handshake?

Is there a way to

a) tell it to dial 1x regardless of success (the manual says:

The panel will retry as many times as possible for a period of one minute before sending a network trouble message. For example, if retry time is set to 15, the panel will retry 4 times.

so i guess set it to 15? And then turn off network trouble messages : )

b) have it make sounds / audible handshake attempt? I tried the different communications settings in the manual

https://buy.dmp.com/dmp/products/documents/LT-0305.pdf

Communication Type
This specifies the communication method the panel uses to contact the receiver.
Press any Select key/area to display the following communication options:
None DD 4-2 M2E
CID NET
NONE - For local systems. Selecting this ends communication programming.
DD - Digital Dialer communication to DMP SCS-1 and SCS-1R Receivers.
4-2 - 4-2 communication to non-DMP receivers.
M2E - Modem IIe communication to non-DMP receivers. This format sends the
report codes of the Radionics Modem IIe communication format.
CID - Contact ID communication to non-DMP receivers. This format sends the report
codes of the Ademco Contact ID communication format.
NET - Network communication through an iCOMSL using a DMP Network/Output
format to an SCS-1 or SCS-1R Receiver. When the Communication Type is
programmed as NET and a phone number is programmed for Receiver 1, Receiver 1
will act as the backup dialer for the network if the network line fails. Receiver 2
will always use communication type DD unless a pager format is selected.
Note: There are extra options available if you selected NET for the communication
type.

It's looking for a tone sequence called a "kiss-off" that's nearly impossible to duplicate with a normal phone (wired or mobile).

Don't put a number in the receiver 1 area. Program the phone number in receiver 2 and set it as a "pager".

I _think_ this will work (DMP is not common in my area).

thanks. yeah, after typing the question, i tried that but haven't tested. Thanks for the advice!

I have to find the company people suggested here. There were 2 - 1 with a 1 year commitment and I think they did the monitoring themselves. Another was a reseller / dealer for a company I heard of before that is in Florida I think. Both wanted $8 - $9 / month. Do you have a recommendation? and / or do you think that's the lowest rate I'm going to find? We fortunately live in a 'nice' town and the monitoring is more to placate my wife and get the homeowner insurance discount... not expecting to ever need it (not concerned about the quality of the company : ) .

I primarily work with commercial installations, so I've no real contact with most of these DIY solutions; thus I have no recommendation.
