Can't locate source of trouble on a zone

PC1555MX with PC5508 and PC5516 keypads

I was attempting to program some wireless devices that I had lost in a system reset i had performed a couple of years ago (another story). I apparently grabbed the wrong programming instructions because it said to enter the TWO digit section number when I was really supposed to enter 3. But, in any case, rather than programming the ninth zone (section 1) I keyed in 010 and then (I think) a 09 and maybe a 03. Not sure exactly but immediately after that my motion detector in zone 3 and other zones were triggering a immediate entry delay tone. I tried to retrace my steps and was eventually able to get the system to stop triggering the delay tone but now I have a trouble light on and the memory light,

Trouble light diagnostic (*2) displays a 5 (zone fault) and pressing 5 again indicates that the zone 1 is the problem. Except, I can't find the problem. Zone one is a hardwired zone for the Front/Garage doors. It's programmed for a 01 delay zone and either door opening properly triggers the light on the panel so both are "working". I just don't know what the "trouble" is. Obviously its a programming issue since the panel was working and properly displaying before I fat-fingered the error. I wish I knew exactly what I had changed but I would think that it would be easy to fix. I have walked through the programming steps multiple times but I can't quite figure out what I may have done or how to fix it.

Have you tried viewing the settings for the zones? It could be that the zone isn't programmed to be the zone type that you think it to be.

Also, since this is a wireless zone, have you verified that the battery cover tamper switch is properly engaged?

Thanks! Sorry, the wireless mention was just to let you know that the panel had been defaulted. After the panel reset I lost all my wireless zones (9-16). That issue is for a future post. There are no wireless zones that have issues primarily because right now the system doesn't know that they exist. In any case, the missing wireless zones are for a future troubleshooting post...

Zones 1-8 are hardwired zones which is why I find it so odd that zone 1, a hardwired zone which WAS working up until mistyped some programming function, reports trouble. I did use sections 101-108 to compare attributes and they all are the same to make sure I didn't change something in 101 that would cause trouble in zone 1. I re-keyed all the zone types for zones 1-8 with the correct types. I know how to view the zone attributes, are there other settings that I can "view" to make sure I didn't miss something?

The zone attributes are dependent on the zone settings programmed in the zone type settings in location 001.

Normally the only time you have to mess with zone attributes is to turn on and off the wireless attribute for a zone.

Ok since we now know that these are all hardwired zones; what are the _functions_ of these zones?

Thanks again. You confirmed my understanding of the attributes so I think they are OK as well.

OK. So when you say _function_ are you referring to the programming on that zone? Zone 1, my problem zone, is a hardwired zone for the Front/Garage doors. It's programmed for a 01 delay type and opening either door properly triggers the zone 1 light on the keypad led, indicating the door is "open".

For what it is worth, when I arm the system, or attempt to arm it, the BYPASS light comes on. I think that indicates that I have trouble on the system that would have to be bypassed in order to arm the system. But, I mention it, in case it is relevant.

Maybe I misunderstood your _function_ request. If so, is there a programming sequence I need to run to return a function for a zone?

By "function"; is zone 1 an entry exit zone; is zone 2 a motion detector zone; is zone 3 a instant door/window zone, etc?

The bypass light _always_ comes on when arming in stay mode, unless you disable the automatic stay/away feature; even if you have no zones configured that would be affected by it.

If you have verified that zone 1 is programmed as a normal entry/exit delay zone; does that entry and exit delay work as intended?
Is your system configured to require EOL resistors? If so, is the resistor installed in series with the zone wiring? If so, is the resistor the correct value (5.6K). Does the trouble clear if you replace the field wiring with just a resistor from the zone input to common (or a wire jumper if not using EOL resistors)?

It is possible that you may have changed a setting in one of the programming locations marked in the programming chart "for future use", sometimes that can create this kind of phantom glitch. If so, your best course of action is to default and start from scratch, again.

Again, thanks! I probably will end up defaulting the panel again. I know how to get the hard wired zones back up and running.

I'll probably be back shortly to see how get those wireless zones to check in. I also have a question about the two different keypads I have (PC5508 and PC5516) and how they work together (or not) but I'll post those as separate questions as I get to them...

Defaulted the panel again and after resetting the basics, all is well. Not sure what I did. But now I have to solve the wireless device issues. Saving it for a new post
